Question BT ASDL advice please

Hi,
My friend is on BT ASDL with the BT modem/router plugged into a extention BT socket and wire from the modem to the PC and his connection is very slow (less than 800kb).

Is it likey that if he plugged the BT ASDL modem/router into a BT master socket and used wireless from his from the BT modem/router?

BT always recommend plugging in to the master socket for maximum speed; you can also get a backplate for the master socket which increases speed

Hmmm... My daughter who lives in 512kbHell-Land and who is forced to use BT ADSL would bite your friends arm off for 800kb. Mostly she gets under 200kb and occasionally zilch.

She has a fault on her telephone line as it crackles so much it is difficult to have a conversation but BT refuse to do anything.

If your friend can't move to an ISP that gives a damn (that's a difficult one I know) then after implementing progers advice I would also recommend disconnecting the bell wires from the master socket to any extensions. It might help.

Providing your extension phones are connected via filters (as they should) the phones will still ring.

The BT backplate - it's called the I-Plate, just remembered that does a similar thing to Mick's suggestion - it filters the bell line although once installed, it takes a few days to take effect as the clever bits up the line need to recognise that your line is now capable of higher speeds.

I think it costs about a fiver

Ah! I didn't know that. Thanks for the clarification.
