BT Infinity,,,, is it good for gaming

I'm thinking of changing ISP from Sky to BT Infinity, purely for the fact that now I've been moved onto Sky's own equipment at my local exchange, my ping has shot up and it's really noticeable when gaming.

Apparently Sky can't offer fast path so I'm stuck on a relatively long line giving me 5.9 ish Mbps Down at the moment and it just is'nt good enough and please don't get me started on the router they supply, it's pants.

For those that don't know, I have tried Vm's 50Mbps service but due to area fault's (intermittent upstream noise issues) and quite frequent line saturation meant gaming was frustrating at times so for now I'm ruling them out.

I recently found out that BT Infinity is now available in Birchwood, Warrington and I'm really tempted to give it a go, but I'm a little concerned about BT's poor rep for customer service.

I dont download anything apart from the odd game demo and the odd patch, and Mrs Pabs lives on ruddy facebook but again she doesnt use much bandwidth.

So if you've had or have BT Infinity's broadband and you think it's good, bad or indifferent, I'd value your input before I jump out of the preverbial frying pan so too speak.

Thanks in advance

Re: BT Infinity,,,, is it good for gaming

By all accounts I have heard it's great for gaming. BT do traffic shape a fair bit which works well for gamers as they prioritise gaming traffic.

So, sure, beyond major faults it's very good.

Re: BT Infinity,,,, is it good for gaming

Thanks for the input Igni, I might do a little more digging this evening and make a decision from there, cost is a factor I have to consider atm with her in doors currently unemployed and not receiving a brass farthing from the state.

So if it turns out much more expensive, I might just stay put and wait for Sky to offer there version of Infinity,,, if they ever pull their finger's out.

hopefully. but i was quoted 11Mb for normal broadband and get 11Mb. Still anything above 20Mb is great as its mostly for the improved upload speeds that VM cannot offer.
