ADSL recommendation?

Hi

helping a friend get ADSL broadband(living in flat no cable virginmedia)
she needs phone line rental also (don't actually use phone just for the ADSL)
don't really need TV unless its cheap
upto 20mb if possible and unlimited access
also the shorter contract length the better (as she might not need it after 6months)

any recommendations

The shorter the contract the better, try AAISP: http://aaisp.net/ or Be*: https://www.bethere.co.uk/web/beportal/homepage

Not cheap mind.

Re: ADSL recommendation?

She has to have a phone line and she has to have a line rental contract with someone for ADSL to work. Some ISPs will do the line installation for free but she will be paying line rental no matter what. No line rental, no ADSL.

Re: ADSL recommendation?

I have Sky Broadband LLU, & would definitely recommend it. No short contracts, though (12 month min.).

£7.50 per month for Sky TV customers who also take out Sky Talk Freetime.

£10 per month for those who do not take Sky TV.

Up to 20Mbps download speed, Unlimited usage, no Fair Usage Policy.

A "BT line" is required, as with any ADSL ISP. Sky do line rental (full unbundling of everything) or you can stick with BT. Some people without existing BT lines have been able to get Sky to reconnect them for free, subject to subscribing, but I don't know if they still do that.

Re: ADSL recommendation?

Make sure you get the full Sky LLU package though, any hint of Sky Connect and leave immediately. Also if you are put onto Sky SVBN your friend may have problems when terminating as it is all Sky equipment and you would have to then look to BT to come back in on a new installation.

Re: ADSL recommendation?

the place actually have a full sky package right now
but her flatmate is moving out
and taking sky with her

tried asking BE about a BB and phone
but said something about the landline number is not on BT (most likely on Sky)
and they cant provide it unless its BT

asked me to contact BT to see how much it cost to tranfer it to BT
but might be a long contract with BT
cant get hold of BT today as they are closed

or get a new line costing £80+
which might not be possible as its a flat and rented

any1 knows the cost and if theres any contract to get back to BT??

Re: ADSL recommendation?

If you are on Sky SVBN then no matter what happens now you need a line provision done as you are not showing on the BT database.

They can't handle migrations from MPF (Fully unbundled lines) at the moment

Ah, I see.

What they need is a BT telephone number on an analogue line. Any ISP or communications provider out there with half an ounce in their brain, and access to WLR(3) can do a new line install easily. Problem is they are incredibly costly thanks to Openreach (think £100 usually just for the install and you're about there, others undercutting that are using it as a loss leader), and the timeframes for installing it are at the moment far outside the normal window thanks to Openreach having a backlog.

Have a word with these guys: http://www.primussaver.co.uk/New-lin...allations.aspx and see whether they can provision a new line or restart with a BT number on it.

With regards the legality of a flat and rented accommodation the terms and conditions of leases in my experience usually state telephone services are exempt. So go nuts!

you mean we can have as many phone lines installed as we want?

think we might keep using Sky
but just their BB and phone line
no TV

£21.25/m and one off £10
if im correct

just don't like the 12month contract

Re: ADSL recommendation?

Personally I would recommend PlusNet for ADSL connections.
