New O2 Broadband Packages
FYI All O2 have some new packages. They are a bit of a comedown from the old ones.
http://www.o2.co.uk/broadband/
The Basics - 8Mbps Down, 1.3Mbps Up - 13GBP/Month (8GBP with O2 mobile phone) - 20GB/month cap.
The All Rounder - 20Mbps Down, 1.3Mbps Up - 17GBP/Month (12GBP with O2 mobile phone) - AUP kicks in at 100GB/month
The Works - 20Mbps Down, 2.5Mbps Up - 25GBP/month (20GBP with O2 mobile phone) - AUP kicks in at 250GB/month
The last 2 are being sold as unlimited subject to AUP, basically it's a soft cap - they can choose to harass you at 100GB and 250GB/month respectively or not at their discretion.
There is also protocol based shaping (Yes Sirius, using DPI!!!! ) on these packages for the first time.
Details here.
The shaping is applied to streaming and P2P downloads, I think it's also being applied to Usenet and Rapidshare-type download sites - will confirm.
Those of us that are already customers remain on our current uncapped, unshaped packages and are grandfathered.

Re: New O2 Broadband Packages
Good for the old customers, I believe 02 was the only provider good enough to be in the same league as Virgin but with these new prices I think Virgin has more of an edge.
I wonder if sky Broadband LLU will overtake 02 on best ADSL now

Re: New O2 Broadband Packages
Ouch. I'll stick with my Sky Broadband... £7.50pcm for up to 20Mbps down / 1.3Mbps up, with no usage limits, no FUP, and no shaping/management/throttling/whatever.
At least old customers keep the old packages though.

Re: New O2 Broadband Packages
So its:
Virgin XXL
VirginXL
Sky LLU
Virgin L
Then the rest!!!!!
02 have gone from being the best ADSL to one of the worst, especially if you use torrents

Re: New O2 Broadband Packages
No thanks O2! I'm glad I got my contract. I don't want you traffic shaping anything just because your capacity is failing - much like on your mobile network!!

Oh brilliant. Was going to sign to O2, just waiting for my 'phone service.
Don't think I'll bother now :-/

Re: New O2 Broadband Packages
I was also going to switch to O2, before i switched to Sky from Virgin, glad i didn't in the end, seems that £25 is quite expensive in todays standards.

Re: New O2 Broadband Packages
Rather goes to show why UK services tend to either be shaped, capped or loss making when people think 25 quid a month for 20Mbps is expensive doesn't it?

Of course the reverse side is that some people like having a fast connection without feeling the need to rape it. They might be pleased to not have to subsidise other people's HD movie collection.

Re: New O2 Broadband Packages
Then one would use a lower usage allowance product such as O2's lower rated one I'd have thought.
Plenty of light user products out there that are relatively cheap, given poster's previous history I took the statement as meaning 25 quid a month uncapped is considered expensive. If I'm wrong then my mistake.
