No Cable Available: Alternate Broadband Suppliers?
Hi Guys,
I'm moving to a new flat in a week or so, there's no Cable service there so Virgin isn't an option for me.
I've previously been a PlusNet customer and not had too many problems.
Sky don't provide their standard service to the address, but do their 'Connect' service (or whatever it's called).
Beyond that I don't have a clue who to go for, the lines (according to a couple of postcode checks) in that area are only going to be any good for about 5.5Mb speeds (!) so don't worry about any 'super fast' offerings.
Ideally I'd like no cap on the downloads/uploads, beyond that stability/reliability is the main important factor.
Any suggestions/recommendations?
Ta muchly

Most unlimited offers have as you know FUP's that soon kick in.. Check for the suppliers that have stated that they do not have monthly hidden limits (I believe the top BT offering is one such package

Sky's LLU service is excellent, if they do ever upgrade your new exchange, but...
Avoid Connect!
I have never heard a single good thing about it.

Re: No Cable Available: Alternate Broadband Suppliers?
you could always ask if BT's infinity service has been rolled out in that area yet...

Re: No Cable Available: Alternate Broadband Suppliers?
If you take Sky TV then Sky Broadband, so long as it's the LLU product, would be a wise choice.
If you've an O2 phone service O2 would be a no-brainer. If you can only achieve 5.5Mbit/s their 8Mbit product would be ideal and is uncapped, but do be aware that BT's checker is conservative and you may find speeds are considerably better.
If you prefer the more personal touch an ISP that is reselling Cable and Wireless LLU service such as Xilo would be an option.

Re: No Cable Available: Alternate Broadband Suppliers?
Local Loop Unbundling - It means the provider has their own equipment in the exchange rather than relying on the BT Wholesale network, which is what the 'Connect' packages are. You usually get a far better connection speed if you are in an LLU area of your provider
