Bt infinity/ 21cn/ fibre bt

So,

I have been a virgin media customer for some years.

There service has gradually got worse and currently we are paying around £22 for broadband only.

We did have the 20mb service but i downgraded this to 10 meg whilst i was at uni and seeing as i am at work all day theres little point in having 20meg or 50 meg.

So i was browsing the web and remembered what TL said at the last lan.

Bt were essentially going to role out a new fibre service to a few exchanges and those lucky few could get fibre speeds of up to 40mb and 10meg down.

I am highly considering this as my exchange is on the list for december 2010.

I want to leave virgin mainly due to traffic shaping.

The 3gb limit between 9am and 3pm and then 1.5gb limit between 4-9pm sees me grind down to around 2.8 meg.

So has anyone got bt infinity which is the fibre bt broadband NOT bt total broadband.

What do you think of it and does anyone know any more about it?

General site here:

http://www.bt.com/infinity

when you can get it:

http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...berMapConsumer

Also if your on virgin media 50 meg please let me know your current price if a loyalty price below the standard £33

Cheers

GM

While the Infinity offering is good, have you considered Be Broadband? O2 is the same thing, and cheaper if you're on O2 for phone.

Re: Bt infinity/ 21cn/ fibre bt

You can also find when BT are planning to enable your exchange for Fibre on the Exchange Search page at Samknows. http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

Oddly, the BT map does not list my exchange, but lists all the other exchanges in the immediate area as being upgraded on 31st March next year (which would imply mine would as well). Sam Knows lists my exchange as being upgraded on 31st March Next year.

I have to admit, I'm in no hurry to upgrade. The extra speed would be nice, but I'm already with O2 for Mobile (and Be for broadband), so I'd like to wait and see what they announce.

Same here, I would like to see what happens and what they will offer.

I think they're being quite conservative with the estimates.

BT FTTC broadband availability

You are connected to the Wembley telephone exchange.
  • FTTC should be available in your area from 01/12/2010

Downstream Min: 18.9 Mbps
Downstream Max: 29.8 Mbps
Upstream Min: 8.1 Mbps
Upstream Max: 13.3 Mbps

» Matched result using the postcode you provided

Nice

Official BT Wholesale checker - will confirm if your cabinet is being done, as opposed to just your exchange.

Claims I'll get 21.3 down 8.5 up on FTTC

Had to laugh at this for adsl2+

Quote:
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 15Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 750Kbps and downstream line speed of 6.5Mbps.
Actually i get ~23 down ~2.5 up on LLU with Annex M so they're way out with their estimate
