Problem wiring in telephone extension

I recently moved into a new house which has just one mastor BT phone socket. The previous owners instaled an extensionin the dining room with a long extension lead (hidden behind skirting so I can't easily access it). The wiring of it was poor so I bought a new extension socket to fit. However, I have come across a problem.

The existing wires are red, blue, green and white however the instructions of the new socket show wiring for a cable with yellow, green, black and red wires. Therefore I don't know which wire to put to which terminal. The new socket has 6 terminals but there are only 4 wires.
I can't find anything online that easily answers my question. Any help would be appreciated.

All the wires are solid colours, no stripes.

Thanks!

Re: Problem wiring in telephone extension

The terminals you need to use are 2, 3 and 5 on the new socket. It does not matter which colours you use as long as they match what you connect into the master socket, and for your information terminal 2 and 5 are A and B legs and terminal 3 is the ringer.

Krone in 3 wires into terminals 2,3 and 5 in the master then do the same in the new extension.

Re: Problem wiring in telephone extension

I may not have explained myself properly initially. The extension cable, which was already in place has red, blue, green and white wires. This cable is coming out of the floor and so I need to leave it where it is. To remove it would mean ripping the wooden floor up, which I'm not doing!

I bought a new extension socket to wire into the existing cable. This has 6 terminals but I only have four wires, as above.

The problem is, that the instructions for the new socket talk about yellow, green, black and red wires, which doesn't match what I have in the existing cable.

Therefore, I'm not sure what wires on the existing cable to connect to which terminals on the new socket. Does it matter? Can I plug any colour wire into any of the 6 terminals? Or do they have to go in a specific place?

Re: Problem wiring in telephone extension

Me Bad! You only need to use three cables to get the extension working, terminals 2,3 and 5. You need to take the cover off of the master see which cables are in terminals 2,3 and 5 and then match them in the new extension.

Get a pic of you master with cover removed and a pic of new extension poasted and I will show you

see this page...

http://www.adslnation.com/support/extensions.php

see the smaller picture, that is that face plate, u must stick wires in 2, 3, 5 and match it the other end in the extension socket.

A master socket on its own only needs 2/5 connected as it has a capacitor to do the ringing bizo.

Re: Problem wiring in telephone extension

A master only needs 2 & 5 connected (I usually use blue & white/blue wires).

To wire an extension properly afaik it must come off the master faceplate, 2 & 5(I usually use blue & white/blue wires) are essential for a dial tone at the extension, 3 is the ringer(I usually use orange). Without doing 3 leg it wont ring, but you could still dial out or answer a call if you hear the master ringing downstairs or wherever.
