Re: Sky Broadband
Don't worry about it. After just checking with my wife, it appears I'm talking out of my arse!
We did once drop a BT calling plan, but to save money, not because of Sky Talk.
When we switched to Sky Talk Freetime, we stayed on (& still have now) BT's free weekend plan, as it's BT's lowest call plan that doesn't charge extra on top of the line rental.
So, yep, don't worry: You can have the BT weekend thing *and* Sky Talk Freetime.
One thing though which my wife just mentioned: If you want Caller ID you'll have to pay. Apparently, we previously had Caller ID for free because all our calls were charged via BT. Now that we are on Sky Talk Freetime, however, calls are charged via Sky, which means it isn't possible to get BT Caller ID for free, as it's not possible to make the required 2 chargeable calls per quarter (or something like that). So we just pay BT for Caller ID... (although apparently you can get it via Sky instead if you want, but Wifey says it costs the same).

Re: Sky Broadband
Thanks a lot for clearing that up. Do you have any idea about the calling features, specificly 1571. Im guessing i have to order this through BT right since i have their line rental?
Is that a free service since i have Sky Talk or do i need to activate that service with Sky?

Re: Sky Broadband
Everything appears to be going smoothly, Sky coming to install the TV tomorrow, even though we already have it, just needed the card. The phone line is almost ready (they say) and 1571 feature ordered with BT.
As for the broadband, their website said i can get a maximum of 3.5Mb, on the letter i recieved they say i can get a maximum of 6.5Mb, but the guy on the phone told me i should receive anything between 10Mb-20Mb. Which details are true?

Re: Sky Broadband
Guy on the phone, rest of the "maximum speeds" are based on ADSL via a BT checker and Sky use ADSL2+. We get told up to 7Mb by the checker, we get 16Mb in reallity.

Re: Sky Broadband
The guy on the phone wants a sale so will exaggerate the speeds, I'm guessing 3.5 to 6.5

Re: Sky Broadband
As I said the speed checkers are all ADSL and Sky use ADSL2+ so the checkers always come out low, the letter will also underestimate the speed as that way the customer shouldn't be disappointed by a lower than estimated speed and should in fact see a better speed than they were expecting.
Without ADSL router stats a line speed can only be estimated, I would expect around 6.5Mb though unless you have a set of stats from a previous setup we can look at?

Re: Sky Broadband
No because i've been with NTL/Virgin Media for years... i'd be dissapointed if it were about 6.5Mb though as im on 20Mb with Virgin. I'd be happy with around 10Mb though.

Re: Sky Broadband
Im sure they do DLM tests for the first 10 days or so which could answer for the low speeds.
And its Natural for 20mb cable to be faster than ADSL.

sure.... but i'd be more than happy with 10Mbps but 3Mbps is a bit crazy considering the fact i was told on the phone i'd get 10Mb-20Mb.
Oh well after the testing then it should be better i hope, just need to cancel my Virgin line soon noooo...

Re: Sky Broadband
Post your stats from the router: Downstream noise margin, downstream attenuation, etc.

Re: Sky Broadband
Its probably DLM running, they start at a set speed and work up from there, if you are in your master socket you will get to the best speed quickly. post your router stats and we will have a look.
