Re: Sky Broadband
Weird, have you actually got a line in place or are they having to install it? Bit strange that BT are delaying generating income from you, not normally that slack.

its already there, the line used to be BT, then it was Virgin, then it was transfered to TalkTalk, now i guess they are transferring it from TalkTalk over to BT, but dont know why it takes just so long.

Re: Sky Broadband
It shouldn't take long at all, just the pairs at exchange end to move to BT equipment. You might want to look up the name of the BT ceo and email him pointing out his staff are close to losing a new customer due to incompetence.

Re: Sky Broadband
My line went dead at around 10am, today is the day that BT said my line will become active, so how long (how many hours?) does it usually take?
and how long before i can order all of Sky's services, does it get updated on their systems straight away that i have a BT line, or does it take a few days?
does anyone know?

Re: Sky Broadband
7 days before it updates normally but you can try anytime between now and 7 days time. Change over should be nearly instant as they normally unplug the line from one suppliers equipment and then plug it straight into the next one.

Ok, so im about to order and it says
Currently we estimate that the maximum download speed your line could support is 3.5Mb
why is it so low?

Re: Sky Broadband
So i called up Sky today and signed up, he said i can expect anything between 10Mb-20Mb so im quite pleased with that. He told me do i need sky line rental, i said no as i've already signed up to BT line rental.
he then said i cant have Sky Talk if i had signed up to any of BTs unlimited packages so he wont do it, i told him im quite sure i can, so he said he'll try but cant guarantee it'll work??? :S
the installer is going to arrive on Monday to fix everything up.
by the way, what upload speed should i expect with Sky Unlimited?

If you have the non-Sky-line-rental Sky Talk (e.g. Sky Talk Freetime), I think it can only be on top of a basic BT line rental.
Upload speed... IIRC, mine is 796kbps, although I think they now offer up to 1.3Mbps.

Re: Sky Broadband
Yep you need to only have line rental from BT otherwise you will have 2 companies trying to control your calls. Speeds are also correct but obviously dependant on distance from exchange, line quality etc.

Re: Sky Broadband
Basic line rental = just line rental. You've got a calling plan on top... so I'd assume that yes, you are screwed as you're going to be unable to have Sky Talk.
You can still have TV+Broadband though, but it'll cost another £5pcm (Broadband Unlimited = £12.50, versus Broadband Unlimited + Sky Talk Freetime at £7.50).

Re: Sky Broadband
I asked for just the line rental though, with no calling plan on top.
---------- Post added at 19:53 ---------- Previous post was at 19:45 ----------
i just called BT and they told me that unlimited weekend is the basic call package and i would be able to sign up to Sky Talk with no problem.

im just so confused, because usually they seem to say anything if they dont know just to get you off the phone.

Re: Sky Broadband
I'm pretty sure that when Mrs D & I signed up to Sky Talk Freetime (purely to get the Broadband discount), we had to ditch the BT calling plan we had, & go back to line rental only, no extras.
