SVBN is fine, uses the same equipment as O2 / Be. Attenuation increases are probably due to variations in chipset compatibility and length of cable run between MDF, HDF and MSAN. I've seen some really quite ridiculous cable routes within COs.

Speaking with a friend in Sky 3rd line he informs there are no systemic issues.

ok well im on TalkTalk anyway so cant get Sky without a BT line right?
If i connect back to BT so i can get Sky, i'll be in a 12 month contact with them anyway so i guess i got no choice but to use BT line rental anyway.

You need to contact Sky sales and ask them if they can do everything for you, things have changed slightly,.

However it is also possible to go back to BT and do the following:

Be on BT Weekends plan or I think the Light User Scheme
And take out Sky Broadband and Sky Talk

You pay your line rental to BT but Sky for TV,Internet and phone CALLS.

Alternatively, you do not have to take Sky Talk as it seems more expensive than BT's offering.

If I couldn't get Virgin Media cable services and had to go with Sky, I would do the following:

Use BT Anytime Calls (BT Together Option 3)
Sky Broadband
Sky TV

Remember you don't need Sky Talk for Sky Broadband! You just need Sky TV in order to get Sky Talk or Sky Broadband or any combination of the two.

Sky Talk seems a bit more pricier than BT.

Sky Talk Anytime calls costs £5 per month where as BT Anytime calls costs £4.95 per month, With Sky Talk you don't get inclusive 0845 and 0870 calls unlike BT where such numbers are included. Furthermore, calls to 0843,08440871,0872,0873 and premium rate services are also cheaper as BT's call connection fee is also lower.

So remember, if you do go through BT remember you have the option to keep line rental with BT. That way, no early termination fees!

But you do need to contact Sky's sales team to get such services, the website doesn't show it as Sky don't like the idea of you keeping your line rental with BT.

This may be pedantry but 0870 is free on Sky Talk too. And you get 20 countries abroad which are free.

BT's October price rises also take their chargeable call rates above Sky's.

As to which is cheaper it really depends on what type of calls you make. With family in USA or Australia then Sky Talk might be cheaper but if you never call abroad then this might be pointless and you'd rather save 5p.

On balance I would recommend you keep the line rental with BT as despite what Ignitionnet's friend on 3rd Line says, if you get a problem with your line on SVBN then 1st and 2nd line support seem clueless about how to resolve many of them.

well im a bit confused, what do you mean by light user scheme? i signed up to BT line rental which was the Unlimited Weekend calling plan? does this mean im on light user scheme? will i be able to get Sky broadband and Sky Talk?

so just to be clear, the unlimited weekends plan @ £0 per month (and the £9.49 per month line rental) is not the Light user scheme, which means i can get all Sky's services?

Yes.

Line rental is £11.54/month with paperless billing. or £9.49 if you pay the year up-front.

Hi, we have the whole sky package: hd, broadband, phone... The broadband is disappointing after BT. Overall speed is slow. The wireless reception from the router is rubbish: poor downstairs and next to no reception upstairs. We are using a Belkin through-the-mains connection for one PC which is acceptable but the wireless remains disappointing even in the same room.
I will be complaining to Sky to see if we can get a better router.

First off, Yes the router provided is just plain *******s

Second off before we start talking exchanges. Plug it in via ethernet and see what happens If its still crap then talk about the exchange

We are about 1 mile from the exchange.
As of today I have 2 PCs now linked through the mains using belkin d-lan duos and speed is ok. The wireless is poor even when we use a loptop in the same room as the router. It cannot compare witht he BT router I had before which gave top access through the house.
We have seen connection cut out at the router though especially in the evenings.
Speed check just gave 1.3mb.
It is not a patch on BT but we changed to Sky package.

Yes, are you on connect?

My parents were advised 4-6meg by BT and 6 Meg at point of sale by Sky but their Sky broadband is running fine at 8.5 Meg.
