How good is BT Internet?

Evening all. Does anyone on here have anything to say, good or bad, about getting broadband with BT ?
I`ve had enough of sky connect and their dismal speeds.
Look forward to your comments. Thanks.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

Be useful if you could go to http://www.samknows.com and relay what is available to you.

BT are 'ok' so long as you don't use the service much and don't P2P. There are likely better services for your needs.

Do not touch O2 with a bargepole if they try to sell you O2 Access.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

When I had BT over 5 years ago the speeds was great but when I had a issue with the service disconnecting every 10 minutes they was about as much good as a chocolate kettle.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

Personally I wouldn't touch them, would recommend PlusNet though. If you do choose them PM me and I will send you a referral.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

Plusnet seem good but if you like P2P on the night I would stay clear.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

Ironic then that Plusnet are owned by BT?

BT are not bad, but it depends on where you live and what you need your broadband for. Their throttling can be excessive at times and their prices are poor in comparison with other ADSL providers. If their ADSL2 product is availble then it will offer better value but you will always find another provider who is cheaper than BT.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

I wouldnt recommend any service that uses a BT line.
I went from 20 meg on virgin ,then moved to a house 200 yards up the same road but as it was a new build so no cable even though the house right across from me has it ,but thats another moan lol.
So went on to bt ,now get my internet off sky through the bt line and only get about 3.1 megs at a max .
What I would give to go back to 20 meg lol and now even 50 meg on virgin ,makes the adsl seem like one big joke.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

Well remember that the QOS you will receive will depend on your location, someone could live very near their phone exchange and on BT's ADSL2 product and get a very good speed and service, not everyone will be subject to abysmal speeds... albeit a small percentage

Re: How good is BT Internet?

BT Broadband is a rip off, for the same price you pay BT for 10GB allowance you can get 10MB speed with unlimited allowance from Virgin.

BT cap everything even the option 3 package which is meant to be unlimited but it is not. pointless!

They are the biggest penny pinchers of the telecoms industry..........oh and broadband technical support is overseas so if you don't like indian call centres, then BT Broadband is not for you.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

BT's Wholesale Broadband Connect 21CN product is quite good. But buy directly from BT Retail (the guys with the massive marketing budget) and you take your life into your own hands.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

I do wonder why BT shape so heavily considering they not the cheapest, plusnet is cheaper than BT but shapes less agressively according to samknows data.

Is a shame recent samknows reports are no longer made public.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

As others have said, traffic shaping, high prices, and poor service makes them a pretty poor all-round option. If you can get directly through to their support it's alright, but for the most part they're not as good as other providers.

I think Virgin have some decent unlimited data plans, but I've never used them before and can't comment on their customer service. They probably cut speeds at certain times, but it's not on the same level as BT's traffic shaping.
