Re: How good is BT Internet?

Thank you all for your thoughts. Looks like i may be going back to Virginmedia for my broadband then. I probably use 60 or 70 gig a month, would this be a problem on the xl package? Thanks again.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

The problem is, BT are a private company that exists to make a profit, now if profit margins are too small, then less funds are brought forward to upgrade the network ect....BT need money to pay for upgrades and repairs whilst the other ADSL providers just piggyback BT.

Now if BT was still publicly owned or a complete monopoly with no competition around, BT would be able to offer much more at lower costs as they would have enough funds to do so. The increase of competitors has grabbed most of BT's customers over the years meaning less funds.

Now that is one reason why they offloaded Cellnet,Genie and BT Paging because it had a financial problem back then.

Now in Germany, Deutsche Telekom is partly publicly owned and is near enough still a monopoly, they don't make it easy for its competitors to use its network like BT, they have a better ADSL service over there and have a full converged telecoms service including there own mobile network as everyone knows as T-Mobile.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

If i was to sign up to Talk Talk, which I`m now told by them i can get at my local exchange, will i have the same speed problems as before or will it improve my speed? Is Talk Talk just another resold BT product? Thanks.

Re: How good is BT Internet?

I had cable for time, wicked ping/download speed always max.. then moved for a year into a premises with BT.....load of utter blx. meant to be 8mb, lucky to be 5mb, torrent capped to 3kb/s from 5pm-12am, also slow http response at peak times........ glad to have moved back into a premises with Virgin, u can't beat it imo.

phonewire = antique(no matter the ISP)

fibre/coax = sweet.

whats next?

Re: How good is BT Internet?

I had BT for a shortime here at this address, but quickly got a second phone line and Bethere instead.

BT's "unlimited" service is truly terrible, especially during peak periods, they seem to traffic manage everything other than port 80 (http/web traffic)

Luckily I wasn't the one paying for it, so I didn't have to worry about cancellation fees etc heh

Re: How good is BT Internet?

My GF left BT for VM because when she needed it most at peak times it was useless. As was their customer service (no returned calls whatsoever) - oh and Google is down at the moment while I was sat next to her using google on my VM mobile.

I diagnosed their problem several times as being their DNS server. I could ping the IP addresses of the likes of the BBC, but not the www.bbc.co.uk

A difficult one to explain to "David" in Goa.
