FTTC rollout no but relay copper instead
Ok I have been told my area is not planned for FTTC (already knew this so more of a confirmation) but it seems as a result of me pushing my MP to push it (she is on BT's board) they are going to lay thicker copper. This will give an estimated 1-2meg extra speed and be done by october this year.
This is better than nothing and is good news but I expect this to rule out my exchange now for the FTTC as there is little logic spending money on new copper when it will soon be made obselete which would mean FTTC isnt coming here any time soon or BT are dumb.
any other thoughts on this, is there much cost difference between laying new copper and a FTTC feed?

Re: FTTC rollout no but relay copper instead
makes you wonder about the reasons of avoiding city centre's doesnt it?
I agree its a waste of cash, the cost will be close to enabling FTTC I would have thought, but this doesnt damage their leaded line market as much as FTTC.
More expensive than FTTC to be honest. Copper is about 7 quid per metre while fibre is 4, plus it'd be a single strand of fibre to the cabinet not a couple of hundred strands of copper.
Would be cheaper to run fibre to the home than replace the entire copper run.

leaded = leased haha. no edit button now.
So you confirmed what I thought, doesnt make sense then. There must be a very big commercially sensitive reason the exchange's are not getting FTTC in that they willing to waste money on copper instead.
