Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
Hi there I set Sky broadband up at my other halfs mum's house last night, installation was easy enough and no issues there all wireless.
I did a speedtest and I knew it would be slow but it was sub 1Mb and upload was terrible, does the speed change much after installation, plus how can I see what the rate the modem is synced to.
I am also alittle confused about the login for the router, is it the SSID and network key they was given or is there a seperate username and password for the router?
Any help would be great.

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
I don't expect it to change much as she lives rather far from the exchange, is strange as I used to have ADSL at my mum and dads which is next door but one and I used to get atleast 1.5Mb and samsknows said we can get 3Mb+ on ADSL max, does Sky used normal adsl or adsl max.

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
Sorry to be so negative, but its not great and probably live closer than your mum but i've given up trying to fathom out whats going on.
With regard to the password, all I am asked for is the key on the modem when setting up the wireless for the first time. Hope thats helpful

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
I don't have Sky broadband but I found that speeds I was getting from my current provider fluctuated quite a lot in the first couple of weeks after it was installed and my ISP said that that was pretty standard. It's faster now then it was newly-installed so maybe stick it out for a little while

Some good tips over at here at Sky User, in particular check your internal wiring ie any telephone extensions, ring wire, its all on that site. The best way to check is to plug your Sky router directly into the test socket located behind the master socket thus eliminating any possible internal issues.

It's something like 192.168.0.1 user: admin p/w: admin but you will find it on that link I provided. The SSID is just for connecting any wireless devices.

Will the router page give me the sync rate?

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
Yes, record it as your set up is now and then when in the test socket, then you will know if your internal wiring is affecting your line speed.

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
Is it a flat plate with no split running left to right above the screws? If so you have no test socket, if you have a split going across the plate you have a test socket hidden
behind it.

Check what channel the wireless is on if on auto change it to 13 or use netstumbler to find a clean channel.
Post up a set of router stats when you can, if your attenuation is too high then speeds will be low but we can tell from the stats what should be possible.
Sync rates are on the router page, you have to click on the button called show stats at bottom of the main page when it loads.
Adsl kitz is a good site for getting possible speeds from as it works out speed from attenuation.

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
If its sky connect and not Sky LLU its usually slow.
I have a mate who works for sky tech support in scotland and even he admits sky connect is awful.

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
Sky Connect sucks.
Sky's LLU broadband is excellent*, however.
*[subject to line length & quality, as with any ADSL ISP]

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband
I suspect you've problems on your home wiring or a very bad home phone line. Alternatively it's also possible that you keep switching the router off - bad idea, don't!
Line is capable of much higher speeds but it's running slowly due to the connection being unstable.
