I never turn the router off, its on continuously. I suspect its my wiring as this was installed when the building was redeveloped and BT had no part in it other than connecting it.

I pay sky for my line rental and broadband, would i have to get someone independent to check over my internal wiring?

Thanks for your help btw

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband

First thing to check is that any socket on the line has a filter first, make sure your sky tv (if installed onto the line) is into a filter as more often than not people think the double adaptor on the lead is a filter itself.
Second, if this is a new install DLM is running, if it's been installed a while call tier 1 and they can open a ticket to get the speed sorted manually.
Also Sky SVBN is showing lower speeds on lines than BT line rental setups, they seem to be having issues with the setups but your line is capable of a lot more anyway.

The Line Attenuation suggests here that you could achieve:

We estimate your line is capable of between 6mb to 7mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.
Are you on llu and what sky package?
Was that also with test socket -> filter -> router?

Thanks for your reply Paul, my sky is plugged into a different socket at the other end of the room. I'll double check the filter when I get home tonight as its been a while since I looked behind that particular book case

Its not a new install btw, I've had adsl since I moved in, back in February 2007 but now sky are responsile for my line - would it be those i contact about line speeds?

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband

LLU = Local Loop Unbundling, basically an isp can install their own equipment in a BT exchange.

Pop your postcode in here and it will tell you if your exchange is LLU

Have you got the 2mb, 10mb or 20mb package from Sky?

If you pay sky line rental then all your eggs are in one basket, you have to contact them for everything now

---------- Post added at 18:10 ---------- Previous post was at 18:09 ----------

If you moved to sky line rental there have been issues with sped drops etc and you may find DLM is running again.

Seemed like a good idea at the time, but we'll see (you know the problems i've had with the sky+ so don't fancy my chances!)

Did you use the hidden test socket behind the faceplate on the BT master?

Have a read of Ignition's link if you missed it before

I decided to have a go at getting the cover off the socket but it seems the thread is knackered and the screwdriver is just spinning, i really don't have much luck with this lol.

Re: Couple of questions about Sky Broadband

Get the other screw out and then GENTLY lever the bottom section of the plate while turning the screw. You may get lucky and get it open, DO NOT put too much leverage on the cover though as it may break.
