New BT Broadband Users need help please

Hi im about to be connected on option 3 on BT Broadband and have just learned after several hours online researching that BT will cap you when you exceed 100GB in downloads.(Wish i had looked into this before)
What i would like to know if i download after midnight for a few hours will this count towards my 100GB for the month,or does the cap effect me if i download during peak times and go over my so called unlimited 100GB?.

Please dont turn this thread into a BT are rubbish as i know they are far from perfect.

If it's a monthly limit then the 100Gb cap will be irrespective of what time you did the downloads, I thought though that option 3 had no caps, or is this another one of the hidden FUP limits that ISP's seem to use??

hi thanks for the fast reply so if i exceed my download limit and im capped at peak times im guessing my service will be back to normal at 12 midnight then.

I edited the thread before you responded as to unlimited and FUP limits..

It depends on thier policy. From experience Demon and Orange after hitting thier FUP will limit you during the day only and evenings there is no cap off-peak

A quick Google indicates they cap you from 5:00 pm to midnight.

yes after many hours on forums last night option 3 seems to be 100gb quite amusing i think since its advertised as unlimited.
Ofcom needs to sort isps unlimited advertising as its false and illegal in my eyes.

well put it this way then

BE/02 unlimited is about 250gb

SKY is Truly unlimited

ADSL 24 have no download limits as i have downloaded over 500gb with them before.

BT unlimited=100gb this is a joke as for reading the small print in BTs t&c nowhere does it state that there unlimited service with FUP when download exceeds 100 GB you will be capped.
That is breach of there contract with there customers.

As for mobile phones im on unlimited and it would be near on impossible to exceed the fup as data is so small.
You can hardly compare a mobile phone to a PC internet FUP.

Sky truly unlimited has to be questioned, 2 of the people i know who subscribe to the 'Up to 20mb' package only ever get up to 7MB and they were told that they would get up to at least 13MB.

They then told me that it goes down to a miserable 1.9MB in the evening and at weekends is incredibly slow, So Sky/Easynet must deliberately cut the speed instead of setting usage caps at peak hours, i've tried looking through all the small print for them but can't seem to find anything, so they have a good chance of cancelling whilst in a contract right?

With regards to Demon, Demon seems slightly better value than BT's offering but when doing estimated speed tests to see what speed they can offer, they always give up to 3MB speed!

However where BT give you 100GB, that is a lot of Data! I get through about 5 to 6GB every month.

Actually its easy to use up your allowances on mobiles, people using YouTube and Iphone applications will swallow up a lot of data!

Demon on thier home office account is 60Gb before they limit you and Orange on it's ADSL MAX is only 40Gb..

My download on VM is about 200Gb a month now

You missed the point My comparison was simple. Mobile providers, offer "unlimited" texts, "unlimited" calls, "unlimited" internet etc etc. When in reality, there is always a fair use policy.

The same goes for the internet, "unlimited" is never ever "unlimited" there will be a fair usage policy. Granted it's "sly" but its clever marketing aswell, lots of customers fall for this "unlimited" offering when in reality it doesn't even exist.

Sky / Easynet do not cut speed deliberately on any of their unbundled tiers. There's no shaping, traffic limits or throttling. Sounds like those 2 people who only get 7Mbit should check their internal wiring, Sky's estimates are usually fairly conservative so they should be getting 13Mbit as a minimum.
