Re: Signed to Sky at last
Your ADSL will not be sorted before the line goes in so once the tel line is working properly (make sure no noise etc on it) call up Sky CS and ask them to check the situation with your ADSL in case anyone has screwed up. As long as it's been done correctly the adsl order will be in place ready to go, any errors and they will order it there and then for you.

Re: Signed to Sky at last
After which you have to make sure the adsl order is on the system. Before the line goes in you might hit issues if the person at the other end stuffs the order up.
BT will put your phone on, once the line is active Sky may make you wait 7 days for the line activation to go onto the BT database so that the adsl can go on. If you get lucky they will do it all at the same time at the exchange but if not you could end up waiting again.
Also have they told you if you are going on their SVBN network? If so you are in the LLU situation of not being on the BT network at all and will have to pay BT to go back if you leave sky.

Never had to ring Sky for the card. They just send the card out. It needs to be in the house when the engineer calls otherwise the engineer cant activate Sky for you

Re: Signed to Sky at last
All contact should be through Sky, the contractor won't know what has and has not happened on your order or what part of the network you are going onto.

From my experience when I joined Sky, Sky posted me out the card for the box the engineer to connect to the box and the engineer had the oreder form as to what I was aft signing up for and once the card was in place the engineer phoned Sky to activate the box. I dont have my phone or broadband through Sky so maybe its different for that.

Re: Signed to Sky at last
The question is what network the OP is going onto, if it's the standard LLU system it's one thing but if it's Skys' own SVBN then the future transition away will be harder.
The engineer will know what to install, what hardware to bring to the job for the tv but will not know the exact situation in regards to what side of the network the customer will be on once connected up on the telephone/ ADSL system.
TV wise it is straight forward, phone and ADSL it isn't any more. You're correct in your statements about the television install, the engineer will have few issues (just make sure the dish is installed correctly, get him to check levels and if you have any trees in line of sight of the dish make sure the dish is elevated high enough to not be impacted when the tree grows or moves) but the phone /adsl side is now a bit more complicated with Sky installing and using their own hardware in many exchanges and staying away from BT hardware completely.
For any queries on this contact should be through Sky CS, they can see what network the customer is on and can explain it to them. You may even be able to opt out of being hooked to Skys' SVBN which will help you migrate in future.

Re: Signed to Sky at last
My dad has also just switched to Sky from Virgin and they told him this.
He has to wait upto 5 days for the viewing card and when that arrives he has to contact them to send out an engineer and they will also contact BT to acivate his line.
They also said then when the line is active he has to contact sky directly to have the broadband activated as this cant be done until he has a number.

Re: Signed to Sky at last
No number means no way to actually order ADSL, if a line installation is also occurring then calling Sky after the line is active is a must.

Re: Signed to Sky at last
WOO HOO! had my viewing card today, only ordered last friday, rang through and was told that Engineer would ring me a week today for fitting date, and they would now contact BT to activate the line which would be done within 14 days.
