If you want a cheaper option than switch to talktalk.

Has anything changed with your setup? Anything changed to make your line worse?

Have you contacted Sky?

Maybe you are being shaped/throttled in some way? Unlike Sky's LLU services, Connect is just a re-sold BT Wholesale service, & is subject to traffic management/shaping/throttling.

Maybe he doesn't want a cheaper option. Maybe he wants to get the speed he is paying for?

Cheers Stuart C, I would like the speeds i was getting upto a month ago, i probably download maybe 15 to 20 gb a month if that. I`d not really call that excessive.!
I haven`t spoken to sky yet but i guess i should. Any chance that the router may be going down?
Cheers for all your replies.

It could be that the router is dying. If it's a relatively new router then I would say it's more likely to be the line.

Re: Rubbish speed on Sky Connect.

Most likely the BT connect throttling plus sky not buying any additional bandwidth due to money being invested elsewhere. Only thing you can do is call tier 1 and go through the checks, change your filter and go into the test socket prior to calling if you can/ have one. What speeds are you showing in your router stats page? 191.168.0.1

Re: Rubbish speed on Sky Connect.

Not that long ago, about a month actually, Sky migrated Connect customers to BT's 21CN which will have caused some issues. Contact Sky to discuss this matter.

Paul - Sky do not throttle HTTP traffic such as speedtests, BT do not throttle any of their wholesale customers at all and cannot do so. Follow your info and Google it if you require more info on 21CN / IPSC / WBC.

Re: Rubbish speed on Sky Connect.

If a BT wholesale customer has only purchased a set amount of bandwidth and that bandwidth is now being shared by a larger amount of users do you not think that will impact those users on service? Up till now my employers at Sky have not changed their advice when it comes to BT / Sky connect customers but that does not mean there will not be a change in the future.

OP - is the service better at certain times of the day, say outside the main throttle period between 5pm and midnight?

Paul - no idea what that advice is but congestion won't make speeds drop overnight should be a gradual tail-off.

Re: Rubbish speed on Sky Connect.

Sky Terms
Quote:
SKY BROADBAND CONNECT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT POLICY

In addition to the monthly Usage Cap, this Traffic Management Policy applies to you if you take Sky Broadband Connect.

Excessive use during peak time

We will monitor your Sky Broadband usage during peak times from 5pm to 12am each day. This is when the majority of customers use the network and when speeds could be affected by the excessive usage of a minority. If we consider that your usage is excessive during peak times we may slow down your connection for the rest of the day so that it has less affect on others. Only a very small number of customers will be affected by this (less than 2%). If you are affected, we will only slow down the speed you can get during peak times for applications which use a lot of bandwidth (for example, streaming, peer-to-peer and newsgroups) and which have a negative effect on other customers. You will still be able to use Sky Broadband to do other things normally such as browsing, email, instant messaging and VOIP. There are no restrictions in place outside of peak times.

Traffic management of our Network

To ensure we provide a sustainable quality broadband service to our customers, we continuously monitor and efficiently manage the Sky Network as a whole. To do this, during peak times (from 5pm to 12am each day), we may slow down the speed that all Sky Broadband Connect customers can get on certain applications which we consider use up a lot of bandwidth (for example peer-to-peer and newsgroups) and which have a negative affect on other customers There are no restrictions in place for applications such as browsing, email, streaming, instant messaging and VOIP during peak times. We do not put restrictions on our network outside of peak times.
Unfortunately
a) The throttling/ management has not been going on long and in some cases is not working properly
b) The switch over at BT end recently has caused issues on some profiles which need escalation for reset
c) Without going through Tier 1 for low throughput the OP is not going to get anywhere.

Re: Rubbish speed on Sky Connect.

Just spent 25 minutes on the sky.com website inputting all of my details into the broadband complaints section, added a comprehensive list of all my stats and grieviences, hit the submit button and got a message up that says" Sorry, This service is not available at this time" AAAAAAARRRGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

A) Ouch, and odd given that the network architecture hasn't changed between LNS and Ellacoya.
B) Yep heard about those ones, some people on 21CN enabled MSANs getting all kinds of random profiles from the DLM when moved to IPSC.
C) Yep as per my first post in thread, probably related to the 21CN stuff, either through a BT mistake or Sky being a tad zealous with the Ellacoya abuse and deffo a call to Sky needed.
