So as the Tamworth exchange will be upgraded soon, I have a Tamworth (01827) phone number, yet the exchange my line runs to is in Twycross. This exchange connects to the Tamworth exchange as far as I know. Would my exchange at Twycross get upgraded at the same time as the Tamworth one?

No, area codes and exchanges are very different things sadly. The upgrade is being done by exchange.

TWYFORD, BERKSHIRE end of March 2011

Though I am guessing that's not the Twyford you are interested in if near Tamworth...

I'm a Southerner, I don't recognise anything above Watford too well

There are no plans at present for Twycross exchange.

Re: BT begins FTTC broadband rollout pilots

So when is it likely that BT will do the Twycross Exchange? The street cabinet my line runs to is 1.5 miles from the exchange, and I am 2.2Km from the street cabinet. However, the village's fat cable from the Street cabinet in Bilstone, terminates outside my house, and splits from their to other manholes throughout the village. Would BT fibre to the Manhole outside my home, as it is so far from the Street Cabinet? This would be nice, as my line would only be 15-20 metres long to the Modem!

Going by all previous deployment it would be next to the existing cabinet so even if BT do enable you won't be able to get it yet as they are only offering it to people who can get at least 15Mbit over it, probably not you given your 2.2km distance from cabinet.

It's likely that it won't happen this side of March 2011 at very earliest.

Currently BT's network is carried to my house via overhead cables, I assume at some point a cabinet will be constructed similar to VM's in each reasonably populated area; are new works required for the fibre to be linked from the exchange to the cabinet? I assume current overhead lines will carry VDSL2 to each home from the cab as is the case with ADSL.

You will know when you are being done, in Oldham currently Openreach are digging up the pavements all over the place as they have been doing for a few months now but just recently it has got to fever pitch with more gangs of workers appearing, looks to me that they are rushing to get the job finished.
