AOL Connection and New Contract information

A friend of mine has been on AOL broadband for a number of years and for around 2 years has been on the upto 8mb package and at best he was getting 1mb because they claimed thats all his line can handle.

In the past week he also chose to take out AOL calls with them which required him to take out a new contract and now suddenly his speed has increasted to over 3mb.

Is there anyway he can pull them up on this because although he was paying for the up2 8mb in the past and he was getting just 1mb cos they claimed thats all his line couldnt handle and that is now not evidently so.

Re: AOL Connection and New Contract information

Perhaps the network has just been upgraded resulting in him getting better speeds.

Re: AOL Connection and New Contract information

Aye, they could have upgraded his exchange.

Re: AOL Connection and New Contract information

well according to BT no upgrades on the exchange were going to be done until the 21CN switch over which on his exchange is set for 3rd Quarter of 2010.

The reason he knows this is he reported the slow speeds to AOL and someone from BT Whole sale contacted him and he enquired if it was over subscription related on the exchange and was told no, and he asked when any new upgrades were due to take place in the future or anymore LLU operators going to join that exchange as at the moment there are only 2, AOL and Tiscalli and he was told that there were no more LLU listed to join that exchange at the moment and next upgrades for that exchange was listed as the 21CN upgrades.

Re: AOL Connection and New Contract information

Up to is up to, unless he can prove nothing has been physically changed at the exchange and they have been throttling his connection on purpose and not giving him his lines full potential there is nothing that can be done. Just because BT haven't changed anything at the exchange it doesn't mean AOL haven't changed anything, it may have been a piece of hardware failed and was changed out and the new one works better or has better capacity. It could just be that a line issue somewhere between him and the exchange has been fixed. Could be many things.
