BT Outlook settings and old NTL account

I have BT broadband, and having trouble sending mails via my old virgin/ntlworld account within outlook. I have the pop3 as pop.ntlworld.com and tried pop.virgin.com and similar other things. All other non BT accounts are working fine, just this one causing prob. I've checked the username and password etc, and all are correct. Could it be something to do with the port numbers I need?

Thank you

Re: BT Outlook settings and old NTL account

Do you still have an active account with Virgin Media? If you haven't, your old NTL mailbox may simply have been deleted. Sometimes they can remain active for a while after you terminate your subscription but they will be removed sooner or later.

Even if your Virgin account was still active, you can only connect to their mail servers from a Virgin connection anyway.

Does it work if you try webmail from the Virgin Media website?

SENDING???

If you're trying to send VM emails on the BT connection then you'll need to use the BT SMTP server, as long as you're on the BT connection it should let you relay.

Re: BT Outlook settings and old NTL account

thanks for replies....following on....

- My account with virgin is definitely still active.
-I checked it this morning. and all is fine with webmail also.
-I tried changing the smtp to the same as pop3 (so smtp.ntlworld.com to match the pop3.ntlworld.com setting)....but that didnt work...the message when i did that was 421aamtaoutu3.winn.ispma.

Thank you

Re: BT Outlook settings and old NTL account

I said to try the BT SMTP, unless you're on a VM connection you can NOT use thier SMTP server.. It's called anti-relaying and normally you can only relay on the SMTP server for the conection you are using.

So it would be BT's SMTP server and VM's POP server..

PLease be aware that the email accounts for VM/NTL are normally deleted once you don't have internet with them so eventually it will stop working totally

Re: BT Outlook settings and old NTL account

I agree with Kymmy its the SMTP server needs to match your ISP and not VM/NTL's . Do VM not offer a dial up solution? PAYG ?

Re: BT Outlook settings and old NTL account

The BT Smtp was the original setting. ie mail.btinternet.com was what I originally had for my smtp. But neither that, nor changing it virgin or ntl solves it. When I use other non BT account through BT, the other companies gave me different port numbers and they work fine. I cant find any info on alternative ports this for virgin, so assume thats unlikely to be the solution. As i say, I know the ntl account is still workng fine within virgins webmail, as I've just used it.

Thank you
