Cablevision will be offering subscribers 101-Mbps download service, a new US record. That's fast enough to download an HD movie in less than 10 minutes. The package, known as "Ultra," will launch on May 11 and will cost $99.95 a month. Upload speed is 15 Mbps and there are no monthly limits. Cablevision is also doubling the speed of its Wi-Fi service, which is available free to subscribers using hotspots across the Northeast.

Ye gods, 10 times the upload and twice the download speed of VM's 50Mbit.

Re: Just got your 50mb VM BB and think its good?

Does anyone know if the VM 50MB has any "Fair Use Policy"?

Noticed on the recent VM TV advert for Super Fast there is no mention of 50MB - guess someones worried of OFCOM complaints?

If you mean Traffic Management then 50Mb has none and is truly unlimited.

So until content delivery matches these speeds it doesn't matter any way. Handy for peeps sharing an internet connection maybe.

Right now I'd be hoping they get the service up and running full stop. They still don't have an ISP for it, so right now you've a strand of fibre for council services and another which is supposed to be for Internet access which isn't connected to the Internet.

It's £20 more expensive than what Virgin charge for a triple play of 50Mb, TV & phone line rental.

Your best bet is to move to Ashford, Kent. I hear one company has already got 200Mb up & running.

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/cc68fa46-3...44feabdc0.html

Virgin Media will expand its cable network by up to half a million UK homes over the next few years and has begun commercial trials of broadband speeds up to four times faster than its current maximum, Neil Berkett, chief executive, said.

Trials were under way in about 100 homes in Ashford, Kent, where families were using 200 Mbps broadband. Asked what this might be used for, he suggested 3D video conferencing.

“Two years ago, when we were testing 50Mbps, you would have asked what that was needed for,” Mr Berkett said. “In two years’ time, where people are now asking about how many people are taking up 50Mbps, they will be asking what is the take-up of 200Mbps.”
