Smile Intention to move from BT to Virgin-advice please

Hi,
I am trying to reduce my costs and thinking of moving from BT to Virgin.

1. I am in a non-cable area so it will be Virgin National phone line deal.

2. I only want basic Broadband (not bothered by speed needs) and I definitely need inclusive anytime phonecalls. I would also need the ability to divert calls from my landline to my mobile, which is with 02 and very happy to stay with them.
I dont want any TV deal, so its basic reallly.

3. Any tips on a smooth way to activate this process. 'Ideally' I would want to terminate BT and have Virgin on the same day as I depend on the phone line for business. I have no quibbles with BT except extortion over many years.
I run Outlook through BTinternet.com and my email address for years is also
xxxx@btinternet.com, whcih have been excellent.
I also have a website hosted by 1&1.co.uk (quite superb even though it is just the cheapest home product) so I will have to make some changes there.

Just looking for any tips really, not wanting to re-invent the wheel, for those who have been thru the process with BT or any other migrations. I had thought about going to TalkTalk ( yeah I hear you.. DON'T..) and to 02 but reading this forum I get the feeling I should be going to Virgin.
I guess I'm going to have to get some sort of code from BT when I hand in my notice and pass that onto Virgin etc.

thanks in anticipation

Don

You won't be able to have Virgin without a BT phone line.

Want to give your broadband a boost? Depending on where you live, you can boost your broadband speed to up to 16Mb. It's free for the first 3 months, then just £5 a month on top of your existing package.
What's that then?

I have no idea as they are just links to Virgin.net pages and I work with Cable, just some info for a potential Virgin.net customer to peruse.

Ok.
Sounds a bit strange to have 16MB connection and the STM on ADSL is a lot worse than on cable.

we will limit customers who have downloaded an excessive amount of data during a one hour period of the peak time frame. These customers will be limited on a one off basis to 512Kbit/s for the remainder of the peak period for that day.

For the small number of customers who constantly download excessive amounts of data (around 2% of our customers), our traffic management solution will temporarily set download speeds to no lower than 80Kbit/s. This limit is applied daily, 4pm until midnight, for one week.

Even for the small number of customers whose service is traffic-managed there is a limited impact. At 80Kbit/s a customer has full use of their browsing and email capability, and can still download around 8 music tracks in an hour.

You pay an extra £5 a month and that's the gratitude you get.

I might do another ASA on this
Want to give your broadband a boost? Depending on where you live, you can boost your broadband speed to up to 16Mb

I thought it meant I can choose anything over 8 such as 9,10,11,12,13,14,15 or up to the maximum of 16. for an extra £5

I just supply the readily available information as requested and as it is Virgin.net I have no idea what they do as we have no access to their systems or any idea what it is actually capable of as we just transfer any of their customers that call in directly to them.
