Leaving Virgin for Now
Hi all
I'm moving to a new address that doesn't have cable so its going to have to be broadband via a BT line for me!
I've been with telewest/Virgin since pre-broadband days and haven't got a clue as to what my options will be with a landline connection.
Can anyone recommend which ISP will be best for this, and which ones to give a wide berth to?
I'm about 800m from my telephone exchange (this makes a difference, so I'm led to believe).
Thanks in advance for any help.
Gabriel

Re: Leaving Virgin for Now
Be* if you are on an exchange they can service.
Check http://www.samknows.com for some info on the different ISPs available in your area.

Re: Leaving Virgin for Now
I'd go with Be if they're available in your area.

Re: Leaving Virgin for Now
Thanks very much both for the quick replies.
Be and o2 seem to offer a pretty similar package. I'm on a contract with o2 for my mobile phone and would get a deal for 9 pounds'ish as opposed to 17 for Be.
Do you know if there are significant differences in the service (i.e. traffic shaping, apps throttling, etc?) or would o2 be much the same?
Thanks
Gabriel

Re: Leaving Virgin for Now
As far as I know, the main differences are that Be offers a higher maximum speed (24 meg as opposed to 20) and also give free static IPs (which isn't needed for normal use, but can be good if you want to host your own servers. Be also use a 3 month rolling contract, so are cheaper to leave if you want or need to for any reason. O2 have a twelve month contract.

Re: Leaving Virgin for Now
Small correction, O2 only advertise 20M but will go all the way up to 24 if your line allows it.
Be now do have a rolling contract but it costs more than if you agree to a 12 month contract.
O2 support is UK based, Be support is, or at least was, in Bulgaria.
