BT Announce 1st 29 Fibre To Node Exchanges

Yep here's the list and oh my God the whining this is causing from the Internet's nerd population is off the scale. 29 of nearly 5,500 exchanges DSL enabled announced and people are whinging because some areas were left out, some were left in, in otherwords any way of whinging because theirs isn't in the first 29 which aren't going to get done until 2010 with this obsolete garbage anyway. Argh!

These services will offer 'up to' 40Mbit depending on distance from cabinet with upstream of 'up to' 10Mbit. Potentially services will go to 60/15.

No, there will be 2 exchanges done in 2009, Muswell Hill and Whitchurch, pilot deployments. None of this 29 will be done in 2009.

Re: BT Announce 1st 29 Fibre To Node Exchanges

Reading on thinkbroadband too there are no exchanges in the midlands planned.

Do you think 2yrs is enough time for BT to do the remaining 5000+ exchanges?

info from Wiki about VDSL2:

Quote:
VDSL2 deteriorates quickly from a theoretical maximum of 250 Mbit/s at 'source' to 100 Mbit/s at 0.5 km (1640 ft) and 50 Mbit/s at 1 km (3280 ft), but degrades at a much slower rate from there, and still outperforms VDSL. Starting from 1.6 km (1 mile) its performance is equal to ADSL2+.

ADSL-like long reach performance is one of the key advantages of VDSL2. LR-VDSL2 enabled systems are capable of supporting speeds of around 1-4 Mbit/s (downstream) over distances of 4 to 5 km (2 ½ to 3 miles), gradually increasing the bit rate up to symmetric 100 Mbit/s as loop-length shortens. This means that VDSL2-based systems, unlike VDSL1 systems, are not limited to short local loops or MTU/MDUs only, but can also be used for medium range applications.

I'm 25 metres from the big BT cab, BE area as well. Some competition at last.

Re: BT Announce 1st 29 Fibre To Node Exchanges

According to SamKnows I'm 1.02km straight line distance from the exchange.

Anyone got any idea if this will be of any use to me? I get around 10-14Mbit from be

Re: BT Announce 1st 29 Fibre To Node Exchanges

Straight line distance means nothing, the adslkitz site shows road distance from exchange which is a closer guesstimate or if you can get your attenuation figures from your router you can get a very accurate line length from them.

If BT needs more Polish workers they will just send for them.

Re: BT Announce 1st 29 Fibre To Node Exchanges

I can't wait for this...not that I'm anywhere near one of them exchanges (though I used to live in Rusholme) but it might actually give VM a kick up the backside especially if BT start offering a decent upload ration

1.13km road distance

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:12.0 / 25.0

Good stats, should see a speed towards to top end of the line capability with numbers like that unless your SNR is rubbish lol.

Re: BT Announce 1st 29 Fibre To Node Exchanges

distance from the exchange is irrelevent isnt it? I thought its distance from the cabinets? or am I missing something here?

Edit I see I am missing the VDSL bit 1-4 Mbit 2.5.3 miles gradually increasing as the loop shortens

woo bloody hoo
