Tiscali in trouble?
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/03...ali_suspended/
Quote:
Shares in Tiscali have been suspended on the Italian stock exchange after tumbling almost 50 per cent this morning on news it failed to meet a debt repayment.
The group - whose UK ISP brands include Tiscali, Pipex, Freedom2Surf and Nildram - said over the weekend it would try to renegotiate its loan agreements. Tiscali owes banks about €500m.

Re: Tiscali in trouble?
I suspect Sky will be sniffing around and pick up the UK business for peanuts.

I hope nobody loses jobs over this...
Couldn't be a worse time to be made redundant.

Fair point. A couple of weekends of no beer and I should easily be able to afford them, with change.
On the other hand: I'd rather file down my own genitals with a rusty cheese grater directly after someone had used it on various citrus fruits than have anything to do with Tiscali beyond laughing at their overdue demise.

A number of Indian call centres for sure. Along with the about 5 British people that comprised the entire insourced and onshore Tiscali team.
I'm very glad I left Homechoice before this shambles got its' mitts into them, that's the only thing I'd be sorry about, loss of VNL.

Interestingly enough Virgin are set to make around £500million from the sale of its television arm....hmm
That being said. If share's are down 50% would the big boys upstairs really want to risk losing further revenue?
Risky....
As for the poor guys who look set for the chop...i really feel for them. Gutted.

Re: Tiscali in trouble?
Having barely assimilated Telewest I very much doubt that Virgin would have any interest in Tiscali / Nildram / Pipex / VNL and assimilating all those systems, along with a large number of low value subscribers and a data network that in part runs over VM fibre and basically replicates their existing one anyway.
Little value in it immediately, a lot of headache.
Still the Homechoice / VNL IPTV stuff might be interesting though I'm not sure quite interesting enough to be worth it.

Re: Tiscali in trouble?
Sky were reported to be willing to pay £250m before talks collapsed because Tiscali were holding out for more. Now it seems to be worth only £90m. Perhaps Brown and Darling will buy it for us all since they just have to print a few more notes.

Re: Tiscali in trouble?
The likely companies to take over Tiscali's operations are Vodafone,TalkTalk and Virgin Media.
Tiscali wanted to sell its UK base, but Vodafone was interested in taking over its Italian and Czech Republic base too,TalkTalk wanted its UK base so therefore Virgin will probably want its UK base too.
I think Virgin was interested because Tiscali took over Homechoice which enables Virgin Media to offer ADSL TV similar offerings to BT Vision but better.
Sky showed no interest.
Cable and Wireless may be interested, following the take over of Thus Plc,that also included Demon internet,so maybe Cable and Wireless maybe interested on doing a whole big relaunch and merge Tiscali with its Demon operations, Cable and Wireless provides the LLU for some tiscali former Bulldog customers as this was part of the contract.

It certainly is.
I find it amusing that Virgin will have no ownership of Virgin1 once this goes through.

Re: Tiscali in trouble?
The UKTV channels include Blighty,Dave,UKTV Style,UKTV food and Alibi. NOT Virgin 1,Living,Bravo and Trouble!!!
I dont think they will sell off Flextech(Virgin Media Television) now, remember they get a lot of revenue from this! Especially from Virgin 1 and Living as well as Challenge Jackpot!
here is the site for Virgin Media Television: www.virginmediatv.com

Re: Tiscali in trouble?
"Flextech" will be sold as part of the deal from what I understand it.

Nope whole lot, hook, line, sinker, part of a move from partly content producer to pure distributor.
