BT Broadband warning

well have to say a neighbour has up to 2 meg and it only gets 500k in fact 438 megs .

This is in same area as cable, the limitations with BT/ ADSL are still the distance from the exchange so would suggest if you are going for ADSL look how far you are from the exchange.

The grass is always not greener on the other side

Re: BT Broadband warning

To be honest anyone looking to move to ADSL must check their details first if possible, some seem oblivious to the fact that living 2 miles from the nearest exchange means low speed.

438 megs would be amazing, but I suspect you mean 438kbps

I just dont understand why people stay with them, Cable Internet is the only efficient internet around.

BT is expensive for what you get too!

Re: BT Broadband warning

ADSL customers not getting advertised speed shock !!!!!!!!!!!

Broadband providers using ""up to"" advertising rip off scam shock!!!!!!

Not really shocks are they though, it's not exactly a hot off the press new issue is it??????

Yea, cuz having an ADSL connection that never drops off, cuts off or gets 'stm'd' while being cheaper and faster is such a bad thing, so unrealiable.

Re: BT Broadband warning

The problem is,because some of these ADSL providers dont charge much money for ADSL, they invest very little on upgrading the networks therefore it is very backward compared to Cable companies.

The problem in this country is that people wont pay for anything! They dont look beyond the word FREE, consumers in fact get poor value for money.

These offers wont last:

Free Sky Broadband with Sky TV and Sky Talk
Free Orange Broadband with Orange Pay Monthly contract
Free TalkTalk Broadband with Unlimited calling plan
Tiscali Broadband,Line rental,Tiscali TV and Free weekend calls for £25

Simply because these companies will have to chip in on upgrading networks and they wont find it commerically viable to offer to customers at these prices.

Virgin Media will! So when the ADSL providers put there prices up, by this time, Virgin Media will be lowering the cost to customers as they're network is already on the ball for high speeds!

ADSL providers also face heavy competition from the mobile phone companies and the new fibre optic networks such as H20, fast speeds, convenient and cost effective these days, to me that sounds like a problem for the ADSL providers which is why they are throwing themselves at us!

It always has been, in theory, this really is not a new revelation. Fibre to the neighbourhood will beat fibre to the exchange in most cases.

Or said providers don't want to go through the multi-billion pound debt for equity swap and bankruptcy protection that it took Virgin Media to pay for a good part of their network

Most of the restrictions are due to distance from fibre, so the options are either to build brand new access network or to pay BT and place your own equipment in / near their street cabinets.

Very few have the money to do this, especially in the current environment.

just because 1 user gets a certain speed theres no need to slander the company and its services totally.

I have a friend who is on their upto 8mb services and is getting around 5mb all the time and is totally happy with it. So as u can see its not all totally rubbish.

Agreed there are some people who can get decent speeds.
This is my speed on Be

ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20e
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 24574 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 2606 kbps

I'm planning to get another line and having a play with load balencing (for now at least, would be interested in bonding if it comes along)
