Thumbs up o2 Broadband

Just switched from Sky to o2 for my broadband and I must say, what an excellent service.

My exchange has only just got o2 in which is why last year I went with Sky and to be honest Sky was good value for money.

I got my mac from Sky and ordered o2 online on Wednesday evening, router was delivered Friday morning and switched on by the following Thursday.

So 1 week and plenty of text messages to keep me up to date. No charges at all, just the subscription.

I got a naff phone line but managed to get an extra meg of download and upload went from ~400 to ~800. Took a static ip and now paying £12.50 pm.

Had a little issue getting connected but spent an hour on to tech support who were real helpful, answered call straight away and on an 0800 number.

o2 comes highly recomended.

Re: o2 Broadband

Mainly because I wanted a static ip service which Sky don't offer and I could take the lowest tier service with o2 for £7.50 to get unlimited downloads whereas with Sky I had to take the top tier service for unlimited downloads for £10.00 which was a bit of a waste as my line could nowhere near handle the top tier speed potential. I am not a heavy downloader but don't want to be restricted.

Re: o2 Broadband

Fair enough. Is a pity that Sky don't do static IPs.

Although at least they have no FUP/AUP for the Unlimited tier

Sky haven't abandoned their Acceptable Usage Policy which relates to downloading copyrighted and pirated content, or other uses to access illegal content.

Though yes they have dropped their Fair Usage Policy which relates to amount downloaded and when.

Re: o2 Broadband

Hi Guys,

Ive just moved to 02 - because my new place is a none cabled area - gutted

Anywho - thumbs up to 02 - I got £10.00a month discount, as I have 2 contracts with 02 - speed seems good - tech support was good. So far, glad to be rid of BT

Re: o2 Broadband

Like Mr Bo, I have just switched to O2. Ordered this morning.. Recieved texts with passwords & usernames. Nothing about delivery of modem yet but the site says it's on it's way. Sales guy was excellent (thank you Tej) explained everything to me so that I could understand it.

Apparently I can get 19meg on my line.. So I opted for the 16meg package @ £9.79. Apparently I should be live in 6-10 days. looking forward to getting rid VM & it's substandard service!

The only thing that worries me is the wireless box... From what i've read it seems to be a little below wonderful... Anyone any ideas of any other wireless routers I should look at in case this one is poop?

Re: o2 Broadband

The o2 box is ok, it works and that's about it. Was a little annoying that I was unable to view my own hosted www's but a quick search found that you can superuser the box to enable NAT loopback and thats it really.

Re: o2 Broadband

I've have heard some good things about 02 and I will be moving to 02 next year and be saving myself a bundle.

If anyone has got any more information it would be glady appreciated so I can look into what I actually need.

Re: o2 Broadband

http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/index.jsp

up to 8meg Standard
depending on distance from the exchange
£7.34 per month
for O2 customers £12.23
for all other customers

up to16meg Premium
depending on distance from the exchange
£9.79 per month
for O2 customers £14.68
for all other customers

up to 20meg Ultimate
depending on distance from the exchange
£14.68 per month
for O2 customers £19.57
for all other customers

When I use a online checker, apparently my line can only do 6.5meg meg.. but with LLU enabled, 19meg. I have a PAYG mobile with O2. You only have toi top up once in 3 months to get the discount.

They will check it all out for you & give you a rough estimate but I used this

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php

The only thing that worries me about O2, is the fact they want me to install software that comes with modem. It doesn't fill me with joys of spring..

An O2 broadband assistant, to tell you about problems. It also says that it adjusts Outlook setting to use their servers, to stop spam.. Which lets face it, is no use nor ornament as spam slides through most anyway & I prefer using gmail servers. But i guess I will have a play on Tuesday & see what I can do!
