Slow Broadband Speeds

I currently have Tiscali broadband with connection speeds up to 8 meg. Unfortunately what I actualy get is less than 0.5 meg. I have contacted Be to see if they could improve but they advised me that because the distance to my local exchange is 5288m the best speed I could hope to get would be 0.5 meg.
I would have considered a cable service but unfortunately Virgin do not operate in my area (Chichester). I assume that I must now except slow broadband?

Re: Slow Broadband Speeds

Distance from the exchange is the killer issue for any ADSL (broadband service over BT type phone lines). You are on the limit for any ADSL service and thus your speeds are always going to be restricted.

Re: Slow Broadband Speeds

Yes, the only alternative is maybe to consider mobile broadband which is starting to get very good. Vodafone do fast 7meg conection for £15 month. Deals are starting to get better so perhaps I will wait a bit longer.

Re: Slow Broadband Speeds

I prefer
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php
as it gives road distance which is a better measurement to use as most telephone lines are not as the crow flies.

Re: Slow Broadband Speeds

Broad band Internet speed does not depend on the distance of service area.So i may change plan of broad band. Please change and switch over to another scheme. You will get good speed....

Dont post gibberish. ADSL is dependent on line distance and other factors. The longer the line though the less speed.
