Be*, how are they?

I'm on Virgin Media, I'm fed up with being throttled when I need it full speed, what's Be* like? Do they throttle? I'm not even a mile from my exchange so how will that help me? I'm just looking for general opinions on Be's service really. Also, do you need to be a subscriber to gain access to their forums?

Thanks.

Re: Be*, how are they?

you wont know how good its gonna be till you have it as your line is an unknown factor

cant help you about the throttling though. My advice would be if your speeds are good when not throttled better the devil you know

Re: Be*, how are they?

Ok, well I'm 1.03KM from the BT exchange, obviously the actual line will be longer. I guess I'm just looking for other user experience with Be*.

Re: Be*, how are they?

I'm looking to give Be* a ring to see what speeds I can realistically get, if I can get around 18 (1800kb/s) down then I'll be quite happy as Virgin can't even keep that speed for at least a minute.

http://www.samknows.com can give you a rough estimation of the speed you can expect.

Not to my knowledge, although I have found that to get full speed, you need to use a download manager (such as GetRight) or program capable of multiple connections rather than just the browser.

As you are less than a mile from the exchange, distance probably won't be a factor. Note: Line distance can be considerably greater than the distance "as the crow flies" (apparently a good estimate is that it is 1.4 times the distance "as the crow flies"). However, if you have a slightly dodgy line then you may have problems.

I believe so.

Re: Be*, how are they?

Thanks, 1.4KM is the estimated line length according to that calculation, I'll take that with a pinch of a salt. I'll be trying Be* out for a month, just to see how the service is as I don't fancy disconnecting Virgin.

Re: Be*, how are they?

I'm currently with BE - about 1.4km from exchange, approx 2km real distance. I get between 7 and 9mb dload, 1mb upload and have never had a problem with stability/reliability, and have never been throttled.... I doubt you'll get 18mb, distance will be your enemy! - alongwith line quality both up to and inside your property...

reckon you'll see up to 12 or 13 mb...

Hope this helps?
