Cool Any BT and Tiscali users here?

I want to ask those who use either service this:

1. I heard they traffic manage your speed if you download more than a prescribed amount, what is their limit?

2. If you are not reaching their limit, do they still "throttle" down your download speed? If so by how much? Do you have an acceptable download speed 24/7?

Thank in advance for your response. I am just fed up with VM and boiled down to these 2.

Don't know about Tiscali but I'm with BT (Option 3) and I've never been throttled and I have consistent download speeds (just under 8mb) all day, every day.

Re: Any BT and Tiscali users here?

ive got a bt line with tiscali as my provider since i had my line changed about 2 years ago ive had no problems i consistently get 5.5mb 24/7 its ok for gaming but my lad would say otherwise!! i download about 40-50gb a month on average and since upgrading to there upto 8mb service i no longer get the fup emails, i cant comment on there c/s as i dont ring them my nieghbours are also with tiscali so if it goes down (rarely) i ask them and then just wait the worst was 24hrs about 6 months ago all in all a 8/10 service imo

the lad is watching over my shoulder his score is 5/10 for gaming but imo no gamer is ever happy!!

1. Yes they traffic shape torrent downloads and any other p2p.

2. Yes, if they think you are downloading too much on that particular evening you get put on the "badboy" range even though they are supposed to give you 3 warnings beforehand.

I would note when your put on that badboy range your quite literally put on "dial up" speed, with a maximum throughput of 4kb/s.

Dont expect any sites to load during this time either because it wont happen.

Re: Any BT and Tiscali users here?

BT do traffic shape I often get capped to around 2mbit/s evenings (i have an 8128kps sync)

although p2p gets hit a lot harder, bittorent isn't worth bothering with during peak hours. (not that that bothers me that much)

Do you get capped because you download beyond their limit? If so what is the limit?

I have No idea what it is, but I'm deemed to be a heavy user so I get capped.

It's worth noting I work for BT and therefore get it free.
But they won't tell me what the limit that triggers the FUP is

BT do not have a set limit, if they think you are using too much bandwith at a set time they will shape you.

Download over night and you dont get shaped (try it, you'll see)

I sometimes do with the odd torrent (using the laptop) that I use but I don't usually leave the pc's on overnight since the desktop is in the bedroom and it keeps me awake.
