As a very long term customer of telewest/VM, I am thinking about leaving as there absolutly ****e at the moment and has no interest in helping or making things better, I was wondering has anyone got any info about this ISP :- https://www.bethere.co.uk/ . As this seems to look ok IMO.

Re: bethere.co.uk???
They're generally regarded as very fast and stable, and also very reliable, but this all depends on how close to the exchange you are. If you're within 2 miles then you have a good chance of some good speed. Until you have your line tested however there is no telling what speed you will get.

Re: bethere.co.uk???
I agree, The merging of the brilliant Telewest and NTHell has been abit rough but things can only get better! We just need to help virgin media get rid of their debt so they can spend money on improving services and expanding the network etc

Re: bethere.co.uk???
I've had no real problems with Be. The only thing I find slightly irratating is they don't accept direct debits, so you have to pay by card. They take the amount once a month, so in that respect it is the same as a DD, but you get no DD guarantee.
On the plus side, they are fast (speed and service wise), and do email and text you if they do anything to your account or service. So, they do go out of their way to keep in touch. Unlike Virgin.

Re: bethere.co.uk???
Hi,
I did have a be* ADSL connection and they were brilliant.
Unfortunately I have a poo BT line and so never got speed above 4mb, but that was not the fault of be*.
When first connected with them I was dissapointed with my connection speed and so called their support, the main point I can pass on regarding their support is that it is fantastic. They are based in Bulgaria but are 4000 times better than the VM Indian support. They actually understand what you are talking about, don't just read from scripts and actively go out of their way to help you and keep you updated.
When I called them about my speed issues, they started running tests on my line, called me back exactly (to the minute) when they said they would, gave me the full technical details of the results and could actually share a joke. (On the back of one joke I ended up sending one of their support team a bottle of red wine (which cost a fortune in postage!), and received a thank-you card 2 weeks later)
They had no problems calling me on my mobile, and even told me what to say to BT to get them to examine my line more closely.
As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan !
I unfortunately ended up leaving due to my poor BT line, but have a friend who I recommended them to who consistantly gets 22Mb with no STM, caps etc and the connection has not slowed or glitched once in the 8 months he has been with them.

Re: bethere.co.uk???
Actual, when I joined, they notified me that BT had stopped the order, but Be couldn't tell me why (Data Protection). They did, however, tell me what to ask BT, and, as it turned out, despite Engineers having installed new master sockets on at least two occasions, it turned out that BT's system was cancelling the order as they had me down has not having sockets.
OK, I had to phone BT a total of three times to find that out and get it corrected, but Be did as much as they could to help.

That's quite interesting really. Presumably, they could knock 5 quid a month off your bill when they start accepting Direct Debits?

Re: bethere.co.uk???
I am leaving vm for be as well, not about the money but about the bloody traffic shaping, and ever since vm took over telewest, the disconnection started like everyday in the early morning hours...cant take it any more,
will have to change vm phone line back to bt too.
just found a link to check how far away from local BT exchange, just about 1.05 KM, sounds good enough to get a BE BB.

LOL
if they don't hurry up and improve their service they won't have any customers to get rid of their debt.
this is an article from may claiming virgin media has lost nearly 50,000 customers.

i wonder what the figure is now.

So as per usual, here's VM blaming EVERYONE & EVERYTHING else but themselves..
Yeah sure most of them customers that have left was because of the SKY battle, but it would be really interesting to see how many customers have left because of their rubbish broadband (speed issues, STM, other issues etc...)
But no, I bet VM wouldnt admit THAT, it would have to be OTHER stuff, like blaming sky!!

Re: bethere.co.uk???
I'm going to be phoning up on Monday morning to pay the £50 deposit and get the engineer to hook my line up then phone Be and get me hooked up. I have the 20meg but I don't agree with the STM as my 10meg line was more enjoyable for when I needed it and I hardly hammer my line on Newsgroups as who can be bothered burning DVD's all the time.
I can get 24meg and a phone line for slightly cheaper than I pay for
my 20meg alone. I also have the 24/7 free calls but I never use it and for £12.50 a month I get free evening and weekend calls and that's only £2 a month as it's £10.50 for the line rental .
It's mainly for the gaming side of it for the ping problems I'm having that VM are refusing to help me out and I gave them one chance. I'm not asking again for a service I pay for so it's their loss . Also the peace of mind to use my newsgroups at any time will be a bonus even though it's rarely used.
Also check the distance from my house to the exchange .
I've been having problems with my internet for gaming in some UK and NL servers and a call to India was useless as since I could connect to google meant that my line was in perfect order. I just agreed to get him off the line before I lost the plot. I had asked him to send out an engineer to see if that would help and he just totally blanked me, I asked again and that's when he told me that if google was working then there wasn't a need for an engineer. GRRRRRRR.
As you see from this picture - Half of the servers get effected and others don't. This never happened before the upgrade and it happens all the time and everyday. Mostly in the middle of a game . All the {FP} servers are usually 20 - 50 ping max but usually in the 20 - 30 zone. It lasts up to an hour sometimes .

As this is about Be and not VM, I have moved it to the "Other ISP Discussion forum"...
