Does Be Traffic Shape
I'm really thinking of switching to Be in Jan 07 because of NTL's poor service - but what i'd like to know if, do Be There traffic shape, and do they block any ports, or throttle P2P in any way, i didn't see anything about P2P or traffic shaping on their FAQ.

Re: Does Be Traffic Shape
Thats not the question, i dont P2P so much at all.
But when i do P2P i dont want to have to be downloading at 50KB/s for a file which is over 1GB like on NTL its annoying.

Thanks for your help
Anyway, as i said, if i download a file which is 1GB or 4GB once a month, it will take HOURS or days even to download due to traffic shaping (As seen on ntl:Telewest)
So i guess Wicked And Crazy, you don't know the answer so please kindly quit posting your smart comments

My point being was you don't have to share and noone other than newshosting sees my ip.
Just a shame you have to pay a small some on NTL for it as their servers don't carry what i want.

Re: Does Be Traffic Shape
Most ISP's traffic shape even if they don't admit to it. Try scheduling your downloads for overnight or during the day and avoid the busy times (5pm to midnight).

Re: Does Be Traffic Shape
BE arent known to traffic shape but it doesnt mean they never will. They are full LLU and dont use ipstream meaning their lower costs means they are more able to not shape traffic.

Re: Does Be Traffic Shape
Yes, i got an email back from the, they said they don't traffic shape, or block ports and they are not planning anything like this in the near future.

Re: Does Be Traffic Shape
There has been some silliness behind the scenes over this thread. Members are reminded not to get personal with their comments.
As for the crux of this thread, please remember that traffic shaping may not be the only reason for poor download speeds. P2P depends heavily onthe capacity of bandwidth allocated by the uploading servers. If that bandwidth is low - and most uploaders will throttle their speeds quite heavily so as not to saturate their connections, downloads will take time, especially for the GB sized files. Days would not be uncommon.
