Ethernet Cable problems

Hi, I am having problems with my router. I want to switch over to ethernet because its faster (so I've heard?) and better. Also the USB modem takes up slots on the PC. When i try to connect to the internet using a ethernet the PC recognizes it and says its connected, so the cable is definitely working, but when i try to go on the internet it says i am not connected to the Internet (says for all browsers, Firefox, IE, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this? I am sure the modem is working as I can connect using the USB cable.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Ethernet Cable problems

To change from USB to Ethernet you need to Power-cycle the modem in between connections

Re: Ethernet Cable problems

Whats power cycling? Is that when you turn the router on and off? I've tried many things such as unplugging the whole set up (PC, router) and then flicking the on switch and just starting up normally... all to no avail.

I just tried it, it works now. This is very strange :S

Oh well, thanks anyway !

Good, I meant as in turn the MODEM off and on again, it binds itself to the first device plugged in so to change it, you need to restart it in between the change over.
