House next door can get cable but I can't?

Hi guys, I'm trying to sign up to Virgin Media and wondered if anyone has any way to help me. I've just tried phoning customer service but they could only give me the details of the spotters team so I was just seeing if there was any other option where I could actually speak to someone.

Basically my house is in an uncabled private mews so I don't think they'll be able to dig up and install it for everyone in the estate, however my house is the end property and the side of it is actually on the main road where it seems they are able to get cable. For example, the house that is attached to mine comes up as cabled on the postcode checker. I want to try and discus with someone if it would be possible to treat my house as if it is on this road where there is cable and thus be able to get virgin media and give them my money!

hi..

i think i can help you. Virgin media are very strict in ensuring every customer has their own cable to their property. Installation teams are not permitted to use next dorrs cable or to run a cable through their property to yours. Contact your estate manager as virgin can arrange for multiple dwelling units (MDU's) to be wired ready for future installations.

hope this helps

Re: House next door can get cable but I can't?

Hi londontech, thank you for your response.

What do I need to say to my estate manager?

I don't think that the house next door to me actually has cable, it just lists it as possible on the postcode checker. There are a couple of houses along the road that do look like they have cable. I was wondering if they'd be able to go from where ever the connection point is on the road (which is cabled) up to the side of my house, I don't think I'd need to share a point with anyone, I just want a unique line going to my property which is adjacent to the road which is cabled (it's just the front of my house which is on the estate).

Thanks again, I'll try this route if there's no other option as I don't really want BT Vision and can't get Sky.

No worries mrmg,

Well, Your postcode may be unique to your estate which is why is shows as non servicable, however, there may be underground ducting running along the main road but it all depends if Virgins ducting actually reaches as far as your property. If it does, then it may be possible to pull you a single cable to your house providing it faces the main road without having to enter the mews. Virgin would need to send a preproofer to check the road for the possibilty of installation.

hope this helps.

Ooh, I could be in luck then. I called the spotters team which will hopefully send someone to have a look at the property. Mine is the same distance from the road as the houses that display as having cable available so fingers crossed!

I've been cableless for 3 years now, yikes!

Well I don't actually know that as the phone line just has an answering machine at the other end. I'd prefered to have spoken to someone about the case to give them a better understanding but hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Thanks for your help londontech.

Just to illustrate the issue here's a picture of the situation.

Is there anyone in the Kingston / New Malden area who could help get the spotting pushed through?

ok, well that definatly makes it clearer. it looks like there will be ducting along the road, but there needs to be a tee (cable outlet) adjacent or very close to your house or sorrounding garden. .. The fact you have sorrounding houses; all with services , looks very promising. its unlikely that the ducting wont be running past your house along the main road.

Anyone know how long the spotting team takes and how I can find out what's going on?
