Bought a new PC but virgin media broadband wont work on it HELP!!!
hey guys, i bought a new pc and when i plug the ethernet into it (from a set top box) it wont work,
works fine on my old pc (which i have to still use) but not the new one? i tried my old ntl broadband disk to see if i could install on new pc, but it came up with a VTRUCK error (i dont know what that is)
I payed quite a bit of money for my new pc and want it work online. Ringing up for help and talking to people in india does no good they dont seem to get it.
Ive tried using CMD and changing stuff in network connections but to no avail any help from anyone would be really appreciated
thanks

Re: Bought a new PC but virgin media broadband wont work on it HELP!!!
I also had a problem after the engineer installed my modem, he said theres some phone numbers in with the cd.
After much sweat and pain as it always is when talking to our friends in India i finally managed to blag a phone number which I called and a very nice guy on the other end guided me through the proccess to get my lappy working. He was an absolute star and I could even understand his language.
The numbers free, BONUS give it a go 08009539500
Let me know how it goes

First, I am assuming you have Vista on the new PC. The Setup CDs are NOT vista compatible (AFAIK), but you don't need a setup CD to use Virgin Broadband via Ethernet.
Second, the STB will only work with pcs or routers you have registered with it. You can register up to five devices. Note, if you have a router, and connect the PCs to that, you only need to register the router.
The procedure for registering a new device is simple (IIRC)
- Switch the STB off at the mains
- Switch the PC off.
- Switch the STB back on
- Switch the PC on, log into Windows.
- Start up a web browser, and go to either http://autoreg.autoregister.net or http://start.ntl (can't remember which)
- Enter your PID and Pin (these will be in your welcome pack, if you don't know them, you'll need to contact CS)
- Follow the instructions on screen.
- Reboot both PC and STB when prompted.
 to the forum, BTW.

I have always used https://autoreg.autoregister.net/start.html and that still works now.
http://autoreg.autoregister.net seems to be for cable modems only - I get a "Cable modem validation error" (Unable to find details for your cable modem.).
http://start.ntl eventually times out - always has.

Re: Bought a new PC but virgin media broadband wont work on it HELP!!!
hit the win key and r at the same time run box opens with admin(if your running vista) type msconfig and hit enter. If your running vista it will ask permission give it. In start up stop everything thats to do with virgin. Reboot pc should no longer ask. Then uninstall anything to do with virgin

Re: Bought a new PC but virgin media broadband wont work on it HELP!!!
If you have reformatted your PC, you need to ensure all drivers are reinstalled. It depends on the media you are using for the reinstallation as to what parts of your PC are recognised automatically. A standard Windows disk doesn't necessarily include all the specific drivers for your system. You can check if any are missing by using Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
If you need to reinstall drivers, start with the motherboard chipset, then do the graphics, sound, network and so on. Motherboard should always be first.
As you have reformatted, chances are that you have to reregister your computer with the Set Top Box. Procedures as previously described.
