V+ @ HD or not

I was offered a V+ box by virgin media and decided to get full value by replacing my old TV with a new Sony Bravia KDL40X3000 to enjoy HD. Every day the picture would dissappear leaving only sound, usually after a half hour viewing. The picture comes back and goes again at varying intervals. An engineer from virgin tested all connections and could not find a fault. I called him back as the picture continued to dissappear. He removed the HDMI lead and replaced it with a scart lead which has solved the problem. However I no longer have HD and the TV is set to widescreen. The engineer says leave it as it is as there is only one HD preview channel any way . Charming, thats service.
I would like to know if the fault is with the Sony TV or Virgin or are they not compatable. Freeview is looking good right now.

Freeview won't be offering HD until at least 2010. Possibly later.

Anyhow, the engineer wasn't entirely right about Virgin's lack of HD content. The only channel that carries HD content is BBC HD, true. However, On Demand carries a varying number of films and TV programmes in HiDef as well.

Admittedly, there isn't an awful lot though.

Regarding the problems with the TV, switching to Scart, while it may work, isn't a solution to the problem.

Have you tried changing the HDMI cable?

to the forum, BTW.

Re: V+ @ HD or not

Not sure if this helps, but I had my V+ connected to TV and my DVD connected vto TV via Scart Splitter. If I left the switcher switched to the DVD, I got the same as you - after a while the TV kept flicking to Scart and then back to HDMI. As my TV (Samsung) aouto switches between whatever is a live input (HDMI or Scart) I wonder if the DVD was randomly sending out a quick signal and therefore telling the TV to change over to Scart for a couple of seconds. I solved it by not leaving the Scart splitter switched to the DVD.
