I came home from the pub last night and logged on my PC, I had only drank a few bottles so knew exactly what I was doing.
Anyway, MSN messenger started up and a contact in my list that been there for over six months started a chat with me. I am very careful and a suspicious person by nature, I started to chat but my PC started playing up. If I pressed certain keys it was minimizing the current window, or running start, and even shutting things down.
I have firewall, anti-virus and spyware tools even though I dont keep anything sensitive on this machine, dont even do my banking with it. My Immediate reaction was to reboot the machine, that was until the contact typed "Oh dear, having problems with your pc" !!!!
This set the alarm bells ringing, I shut everything down including the router. I powered the pc back up without the router, I logged on OK and went into notepad and as I typed caused exactly the same problem. however if I used the windows keypad program everything was OK, this started to make me wonder if there was a keystroke logger/trojan or whatever running. I updated my antivirus and ran it, ran spyware detector and even went to the microsoft site to look.
I couldn't find anything wrong with the machine, and was starting to think about putting my spare hard drive into the machine.
About 10 minutes ago I swapped the keyboard, and I'm happily typing this post. It could possibly be one huge coincidence that the person on messenger mentioned my computer problem that quickly... or is it?
I wonder if thr fault has gone away.
