Re: calls from uk company's selling things
Register with the Telephone Preference Service, takes 28 days for it to go through and you shouldn't get any more calls
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ to register online

Re: calls from uk company's selling things
If you still get calls after signing up tell the caller you are on the TPS list and that they are breaking the law if they call you again. If they continue to cal,l you can report them for it.

Re: calls from uk company's selling things
Where they catch you is "so called" marketing people doing surveys (usually in town on a Saturday). They are usually ask a very few questions, they then tell you "your answers will be entered in a draw and could they have your name and phone number to advise you if you win"! They now have your phone number under a legitimate guise which circumvents the TPS system!
Be Warned!

Only if you don't sell you anything. As soon as it becomes a sales call the tps kicks in.

True! I forgot to mention you are guaranteed to have won a holiday and then have to go to a presentation (or special meeting) in order to collect your prize!
