Virgin Media Can't retrieve New Phone Number

Hi all, hope someone can talk more sense than the Virgin Media Staff.
I asked for a change of phone number today as I was getting unwanted phonecalls, I was told that it would take about 24 hours and to retrieve my new number I would need to dial 173 or 174 or 175. Anyway I dialed 173 I was then prompted to put in my telephone number and area code phew I was then prompted to dial 174 only there was no dialing tone just a dead line. My sister tried phoning me early today only to be told my phone number isn't recognised ( my old phone number) Hope someone here can help. Thanks

Try dialling 01753 737 301 this is a national number, charged national rate that should reveal the telephone number.

Alternatively, you could always try calling your mobile.

Re: Virgin Media Can't retrieve New Phone Number

I phoned the national number to, only to be told by some robot to dial 1470 to release the identity...What's all that about.. I can phone my sister on it and I ask her to dial 1471 in case my new number comes up....No such luck. It's costing me money to phone my sister, it's free for her to phone me after 6pm.

Oh Hi by the way

Re: Virgin Media Can't retrieve New Phone Number

It sounds like you have a permanent number conceal feature active on your line. Call 150 or check your bill to see if it's there, if it isn't, you'll need to call 151 as there are some exchange faults that can cause the line to be permanently witheld.

To tell what the number is dial the above number preceded by 1470, this will reveal your telephone number for that call only and it will read the number back to you.

.i.e.

1470 01753 737 301

Different franchise areas have different numbers that will reveal your phone number.

The ex - Birmingham Cable area uses 1579
