Re: Phoning the US

If you subscribe to one of the call plans 2p per minute plus 5p connection charge

Otherwise (off the top of my head) I think it's 10p per minute (or could be 20 )

Possibly a lot less if you use http://www.call1899.co.uk or http://www.call18866.co.uk There's a 2p or 3p connection charge, but Call 1899 are currently doing calls to USA fixed lines for 1p per minute!

If calling from an NTL line the call process is slightly different and the prices are too. Something to do with Ntl charging call1899 more than BT do or something.

The Ntl price list is here :http://www.call1899.co.uk/mobilerates.php

I'll second Graham's recommendation though, 1899 is a truly great service.

Yep, I have to dial 0808 170 7474 and wait until it says "welcome" before keying in the number I want, but it's made a massive difference to my phone bill!

I just go by the message where it says "this is a free phone call" or "3p per minute" or whatever.

Talking Re: Phoning the US

We use 1899 but access it by calling 0808 1 708 708

Theres the 1899 fee of 3pence per call, plus the NTL cost of 5 pence per call but those are the only charges for UK calls, so they will all cost 8p no matter when dialled or how long for.
The 1p across the Atlantic is brilliant ! My wife has some family in Toronto in Canada & they can talk cheaper than me calling my sister who is just 300 yards away from us here in the UK but on BT !!!

BTW... Mobiles in USA are only 1 p too !

Also......
if you use "say no to 0870" in conjunction with the 1899 you can make those expensive 0870 numbers into freefone ones !
