If they are married, all property is joint, unless it is proven otherwise. I think that the sale would be binding, even if not very equitable. Of course in any divorce settlement the wife might find her little laugh backfires as the frivolous abandonment of joint assets should, I hope reduce her setlement (but no doubt the law doesn't work like that).
