As a thought, it might work the other way round too (NTL run Virgin.net).
You could convert your unlimited NTL dial-up to PAYG to make sure that the account and email stay active (maybe dialing in for a minute once in a while).
You could then open a Virgin.net 24seven account (for £12.49 per month[1]). You may be able to access your NTL email and webspace via this (at a guess - does anybody know for sure?).
[1] Interestingly, Virgin.net have not yet increased to £13.49 per month like NTL:
