you can't uninstall internet protocol on windows xp

try ipconfig /renew from a dos prompt, and if it gives you the error

"an operation was attempted on something that is not a socket" have a look at this:

NB- if you have Service Pack 2 installed you can using the following from a command prompt to do the same as the article states for you:

netsh winsock reset catalog
