it's only personal opinion, but you've omitted what is certainly one of the top tools, and databases, namely www.datafellows.com

Yes, I was going to suggest that as well. I liked their performance tests, it analyses your system, compares its performance against similar systems, and gives you tips on what tweaks you can use to enhance performance. Not security related, but still a very useful tool...

Again, personal opinion - but http://www.f-secure.com/ is a good site - I could also recommend subscribing to the Email list (free and no spam) to get warnings of new viruses as they are noticed...

f-secure is the new name for datafellows, but they are keeping both urls

imo, room should be made for these: Adaware
Spybot
Spywareblaster

Spywareblaster, in paticular, is very good as it stops most spyware being installed in the first place.

'Freedom' software do a pretty good firewall and A/V. Firewall comes with popup blocker etc

Are you entering the number in the main screen ???
It may help to reboot the computer.. That can help when you register AVG
