Heads up for 13th June
El Reg
Quote:
Next week's Patch Tuesday, Microsoft's monthly security update, will see the release of nine security updates, some of which are deemed critical.
The updates will fix various known security holes and change the way Internet Explorer deals with ActiveX - used by web pages for multimedia functions. The changes to ActiveX are related to Microsoft's ongoing patent dispute with Eolas Technologies.
One security bulletin deals with a hole in Microsoft Exchange and two relate to Microsoft Office. The software giant is also updating the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Re: Heads up for 13th June
I can't give more details because of an NDA, but this is smaller than it was originally going to be
Considering XP is considered a 'mature' product, the number of critical patches still being released is quite shocking.

Re: Heads up for 13th June
Sometimes it's a good idea to manually update as the servers can get bogged down later in the day lol.

Re: Heads up for 13th June
Yeah, the Word one was a 0-day so it was out before the patch, and a couple of proof-of-concepts were released the day after the patches came out, by the guy who disclosed it to MS originally. The most worrying one, though, MS06-025, was only released to partners of a security company, and so far hasn't been seen in the wild (touch wood, as I'm on call )
I've got a great graph showing the time from patch release to exploits being released, which covers from the early 90's till the present day. It starts off with people having years to patch machines, whereas today exploits are being released simultaneously or even before the patches are out
