Virus Found !!

AVG virus scanner has picked up a virus that is embedded in a zipped archive within sun java..............it wont allow me to heal/send to quarantine.............its showing up on my sons documents & settings, so Ive done a search and located the file. Any ideas how I can get rid of it? will it be ok for me to just delete the zipped file completely?? The virus is a worm/AgobotAAG ????????

Yep delete the file, and then ensure you also delete it from your recycle bin.

Re: Virus Found !!

it is probably a false positive. AVG and many other virus killers use something called Heurustic (spelling) checking, which means it looks for patterns that could be a virus within a file. Zip files are compressed. When you compress something you change the structure of it. That structure may then take on, bytewise, the pattern, or part of the pattern, of a virus in the virus killer's database and so the virus killer has a bit of a shout.

If the virus killer can't delete the virus it may be because Java is using the zip file at the time, or it is protected against deletion - so you would have to do a manual delete and change the properties.

So don't worry - this is a common problem and the zip file in the docs and settings for Java regularly gives virus killers the heebyjeebies.

Also, Don`t forget to turn off System restore when you delete it!
Reboot the PC, then turn system restore back on again.( If you use it that is)
