Re: Need Help

here is the Trendmicro advice for it:
http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...hlight=Brontok

read up and follow the instructions.

This is an email virus, so someone with access to your pc clicked on an attachment that came with an email.

To help not to get infected by viruses/spyware use the following programs:

http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm - a free firewall (very good)
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 - AVG virus killer.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ - Adaware: spyware destroyer.

Also start using a better browser and email client. Most people recommend Firefox as a browser and Thunderbird as an email client. Both have much tighter security features than IE or Outlook.

Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/

But most of all you need to be careful with your browsing habits. Don't click on attachments that don't appear to come from your friends - and if they do, do they look like the kind of attachments your mates would send you?
Don't search for Warez on the web, nor MP3s - you'll get everything but the stuff you were looking for. And don't look at porn thumbnail sites - they are a hotbed of virus and spyware activity to fund the more dubious of porn sites. If you must look at porn thumbnails - use google images.

With the Internet in everyone's lives and spyware/viruses increasing we nerds have become the hardest, toughest beggars on the Earth. You have to be these days to enjoy this damn thing we call the World Wide Web

Re: Need Help

It may be worth your running an online based virus scanner - I quite like the stuff from www.pandasoftware.co.uk They often do free removal tools too.

These days it's not enough to have an antivirus system, it must also be current. Make sure you have it set to do automatic updates.

Another free antivirus alternative to the AVG one: http://www.avast.com You do only want one antivirus on your PC though - they can fight each other and give false warnings if two programs start to conflict, plus both scanners would eat computer power.
