Virus Removal

hi i have just had 1mg bb fitted and am getting messages that i have a virus and somone is accessing my pc.

i have installed ntl netguard but after waitng an hour an half for it to scan it asked me to register an pay to remove the infected files.
i thought these services were supposed to be free.

should i just unistall netguard and use something else like

Re: Virus Removal

no - trendmicro will remove them for free.

You should get yourself a decent firewall, a virus killer and a spyware destroyer.
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm - a free firewall (very good)
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 - AVG virus killer.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ - Adaware spyware destroyer.

Learn to be wary of the internet. Don't absently go on MP3 sites or Warez sites. And stay well clear of porn thumbnail sites.
Know what should be running on your pc at startup, and regularly check that no new ones have been nicely added.

Be afraid...be very afraid

Re: Virus Removal

To add to grubymitts list of defences you should also add:

Spybot S&D
Spywareblaster and update them regularly.

All these programs sit nicely and complement one another, although it would be wrong to run more than one AV or FW.

That's not good, ntl netguard is free to ntl Broadband subscribers.

Re: Virus Removal

Softspy? You didn't click on one of those "You appear to have Spyware on your PC" banners, did you? If you did then you really are up the creek without said paddle and you really do need to follow our advice. Those banners often download their own nasties onto your pc.

read: http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/200...onspiracy.html for more info.

Again: Netguard is free to NTL 1mb, 2mb & 10mb customers, so you will not get asked for payment. It really does sound like you have some spyware on your pc.

Re: Virus Removal

yep, that balloon is part of a piece of spyware (read the article I put a link to earlier) and is lying to you that "Windows has detected spyware" in the hope that you'll click on it so that it can download more crap.

Download and run all of the programs we have linked to - hopefully this will eradicate the problem. Then you need to change your browser from Internet Explorer to Firefox. Firefox is a more secure web browser and ideal for people who are new to the internet.

You can get firefox from: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Internet Explorer is a good browser, but it does have major problems that can be exploited. Firefox will stop popups and doesn't have the vulnerabilities of IE, so you will have fewer problems to fear.

Welcome to the Internet - it really is a sh*t scary place and you have to be as hard as hell to survive here sometimes

Re: Virus Removal

You should have a look at this link... http://www.f-secure.com/sw-desc/spyaxe.shtml

It explains what has happened on your PC. You have some malware installed - called SpyAxe. Fortunately, there's also a removal tool on that page, that you can install and use to remove the malware.

You can trust F-Secure
