Encryption on a memory stick
I have some files and documents on my memory stick which I want to encrypt. Normally I'd use Safehouse or Trucrypt but I want to be able to open the files on a different computer that doesn't have either programme on it and neither can I install anything like that on it.
Is there anything I can specifically install on the memory stick so the files can be encrypted and accessed wherever I like without installing something on that computer?

Oh and free if possible!

Re: Encryption on a memory stick
Just buy a stick with encryption built-in?
Yes, I know, not "free" but if you use encrypted files regularly I would think it makes sense

Re: Encryption on a memory stick
you could zip them all up into an SFX archive with encryption using winrar

Re: Encryption on a memory stick
In Windows, there is a program called Bit Locker which will encrypt the whole drive which can be opened with a password on any computer. It's what I use. All the time. It's in Control Panel somewhere, can't remember off the top of my head.

Re: Encryption on a memory stick
I would stay with something established and possibly open source otherwise you have little idea of programming errors that may cause your data to be vulnerable. The PGP link does have the look and feel of MyFirstWinProgram.exe

Re: Encryption on a memory stick
PGP is a pretty good standard and the link is for a portable version using Java. I use PGP (or the GNU version) on Linux to sign/encrypt emails.

Re: Encryption on a memory stick
I agree. PGP is an excellent standard as are many others.
It's how they are implemented.
Just like a 5 lever Mortise is an excellent door lock, but useless when you leave the key under the flowerpot.
Many years ago there was a regular poster on Usenet sci.crypt who had a pretty good algorithm he had devised. Simple and powerful.
He received excellent feedback from the community. He was a mathematician. All good until he released his C source code of it's implementation. Slated and was never heard from again.
